How is that acceptable in the books but not in the movie? I am sure they can do it but do it in a tasteful way.

The movies had to be suitable for the biggest audience posible. Having certain parts of the book included would have raised the movie rating to R, which means less people would pay to see it. That’s why a certain part of the book that involved a sex scene between all the main characters was cut out all together. Also they already had Beverley’s dad being creepy around her in a sexual way as well as the pharmacist that was kinda flirting with her in a scene. I don’t think they wanted to shoot a scene with a then underaged Nicholas being molested by another guy, specially if that scene didn’t add anything to the main story.

Y'all can't possibly be singular if it's being followed by the word 'are' and I've never ever heard someone use y'all to refer to one person. I've only ever seen it being used to refer to a group of people

Uh, the 2nd person singular “you” is followed by “are,” as is the plural 2nd person “you.” Personally I think “you all” is clearly referring to multiple people but “y’all” as slang can work either way (although yes, traditionally it’s plural).
