Nudity in college sports: a question

I recently found this video, and it was relatively shocking (in a good way) to see how comfortable these guys are being naked in front of one another: hidden cam - real college wrestlers | Redtube Free Public Porn Videos, Amateur Movies & Gay Clips I was wondering if anyone in college sports can say if this still goes on. This video is from the mid-1990s, and I guess I had assumed that when they learned this kind of stuff was going on (filming in secret), maybe it put an end to the relaxed nudity. Any thoughts?

Outside of the US... it's not as a biggie!

Totally illegal video but yeah, wrestlers and other contact sports should definitely be used to showering. My hs's wrestling team showered after practice, about 120 of them. If someone didn't, I'm pretty sure the coaches would rib them not for being bashful but for just being disgusting and taking such a dumb risk at developing a skin infection.

My alma mater, USC, has a large student gym with open showers but there are a dozen partitioned showers closer to the door for handicapped people and people wanting to shave since they have shelves in them. Some athletes use this gym if they're working out on there own and don't want to go across campus to another one.

As far as I'm aware, the showers for the athletes' gym and some of the fraternities are all open showers. Looking at one of the blueprints, it suggest the men's showers are completely open while the women's are half-partitioned.

For those of us into this stuff, this is not new. I discovered it in the 90's. It's totally illegal but pretty hot. It is inspiring to some of use that guys were this comfortable naked in the locker room, but it's also sad that it's even a topic of discussion. In HS and college in the 70's and early 80's all the guys I knew stripped naked, put on jockstraps for sports, stripped again, showered together, etc It was no big deal; it was, in fact, really rewarding just from a male bonding perspective.
I know there's less of this now because guys are so fuckin paranoid about someone seeing their dicks. Weird... and pussified, frankly. The whole towel dance thing i see some guys do is pathetic.

It may be people like you who cause so many men (especially younger) to not strip down and want to be naked in front of others. I think any of us who have worked out on a consistent basis or been on a sports team and used locker rooms in the past can all attest to the fact there is usually someone there who is clearly not there to work out. Or people who are purposely there to only work their eyes out and get their jollies off. And personally I find that weird, creepy, and beyond disgusting. And I think we all know who those guys are.

Especially with the prevalence of camera phones/video phones, I might be leery before I was 100% naked and comfortable in a heavily crowded locker room where I cannot keep track of everyone. I cannot tell you how many of these videos I have seen online over the years of people being recorded in bathrooms or locker rooms. I do not think it is wrong to expect or want privacy in a place it should be expected.

I also do not blame people for not wanting to put on a show for others either. I am sure most people using the locker room only want to change, wash up, or take care of whatever business they need to in there. They are not there to socialize, make friends, or looking for brotherhood. I find nothing wrong with that.

Not to mention, in addition to the other reasons above, I am not interested in checking most other men out in the locker room. It is pretty obvious when certain guys are clearly trying to show off and strut around like a pea cock. No offense, but the locker room is not a place for you to show off or possibly cruise and meet men. Nor do I want to see you in your tightey whities or shaving naked or constantly bending over naked. And why is it usually always the oldest, fattest, and most out of shape men who feel a need to do this?

As far as I am concerned, I cannot blame some men for not being comfortable in the locker room and not wanting to risk being perved on or recorded by someone. I do not find anything "pussy" or weird about this at all.

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen any of the above behaviors go on in any various number of locker rooms all over the place.

^Well your question was pretty stupid to begin with. Yes, believe it or not, people involved in team sports still get naked in the locker room. Hard to believe, I know.

I used to be an athlete, and being naked around team mates was never that big a deal. And no, it was not because of some brotherhood or male bonding garbage either. It's the mere fact that when you are naked around the same people everyday it ceases to be a big deal anymore. Now I am sure that changes for some people in community locker rooms for reasons I listed above.

And the above video appears to be from various wrestling tournaments. At least when I wrestled in school, unless you were wearing certain underwear (tightey whities) you had to strip naked at weigh ins. That was not an option.

It wasn't a fuckin "opinion." It was an OBSERVATION. In the video (which is now something like 20 years old) the guys are acting more like they're at a nudist colony than in a gym locker room. I've never been on a sports team, so I've never been in a team locker room…. In most gym locker rooms, yes, there is some nudity -- transitionally, as one changes ones clothes, gets in and out of the shower, etc. But in this video, it's basically a nudist colony with guys just hanging out nude. That was my question: is this common in college sports locker rooms? But never-the-fuck-mind…. It's an odd quirk of this forum that questions don't get answered and topics aren't stuck to; the topic gets lost, accusations are made, and drama ensues, and everyone forgets the original point….

Actually, that was nice. An answer. Thanks. Now, was that so hard?

Bigbadger, I think your post is correct and I agree. I think the fact that a camera can be most anywhere at anytime is a big reason people are less naked in the locker room, and I also believe that some people don't want to ogled or have someone make sexual advances at them either, so they try to remain as covered as possible. There's nothing wrong their behavior at all. They simply aren't there for others viewing pleasure or to be hit on, so they’re careful to try to avoid those very things.

I would also like to add that I find it a bit hypocritical that many of the posters who berate men for not wanting to show their dick in a public locker room, more often than not, have NO pictures of themselves posted on a website dedicated to penises and where it is much more the norm to show your dick than in a locker room?

And yes, I like seeing a good looking guy naked, but I certainly don't find any fault in him not wanting to be. It seems rather obvious that if you don't want to show your dick on penis website, then it's certainly alright if a stranger in a public locker room doesn't want to either. So why wonder why, or try to psycho-analyze them? You have your answer already. And no, it's not because our society is over feminized, or men are less masculine, and it has nothing to do with "bonding".

To the original poster's question and responses:

First, it's been a couple of years since I've been in a team locker room, but I suspect the same principle applies there - albeit to a lesser degree- as in an open to the public locker room. I think guys are aware there might be a camera around and might not be quite so naked. However, in my experience it is a lot different scenario too. You know who's going to be in locker room with you so you're probably going to less concerned about someone bringing a spy cam, ogling you, or making awkward passes at you, so you tend to be more comfortable being naked.

Second- Perhaps if you directed your audience better you'd get more of the type of replies you're looking for? i.e. "answer my question and only my question in 20 words or less”; Although it seems a little bit unreasonable to me to not expect that people will discuss locker room nudity in thread where the question is indeed about it.

Nah. It's a characteristic of this forum. Indignant drama queens abound. I see it all over this forum. Threads descend into drama-based chaos and eventually just become chat rooms. I think I need to find a different forum when I have serious questions. This is a good forum for showing off; not so much for thoughtful discussion.

I did college football in 2010 and I was the only consistent showerer. I sweat more then most men. Others joined me on occasion. This was Glendale Community College in California. The young crowd treats showering as a foreign object, and I pretended not to notice when someone would hide behind a wall and watch.

Some reminiscing:
We heard about videos like this back when I was in college, but don't remember thinking or worrying much about it. I started college in 97.
Best I remember most of the conversation most guys didn't care nor did it immediately affect the way they behaved in the locker room.i think the common reaction was more like "ok someone knows we get naked in the locker room, big deal." I know things differ from area to area and school to school, but even in the late 90's I think most tournaments I atteneded you would see more jockstraps and maybe less nudity on the actual scales. The amount of those guys wearing bikini underwear brings back memories, not so much anyone wearing them in the locker room but they became standard underwear for those of us in my dorm. lighter and thinner with the tighter jeans then and much more sensitive when your gal was rubbing on things. One guy in the video had on a jockstrap and wrestling briefs, didn't see that much. A few guys had those type briefs but most considered them very binding compared to a jock and only a few wore them when we used our lighter colored singlet. I had almost forgot about the way some of the guys used to write their name all the way around the waist of their jockstrap. Even the few regular jock wearers today on my teams don't seem to care if they share jocks. I see them loose in the laundry with no markings regularly. Our equipment guy just sorts them by size and the guys grab one as they need it.
The first guy I saw wearing bikini underwear was in my dorm freshmen year. He gave tighty whitey a new meaning. all his were white and he always showered in them before taking them off and ringing them out. Soon realized this was his way of laundering them. I noticed a tag on them that said Lee Wright was the brand. I found some at the store and thought I would try them. First night I had them on and making out with the girl I was seeing at the time she thought they were awesome compared to regular briefs, she rubbed on them a long time and got my first collge blow job wearing them. jockey was my go to underwear back then and I soon tried the jockey poco briefs and wore them for the rest of college and started seeing the in the locker room as well.

But to the question that was ask, yes it does still go on with the more serious wrestling schools locker room. Lot less white briefs, but underwear is a status symbol now and these guys love opportunities to be seen in theirs. Only see 2 or 3 guys wearing true tighty whiteys at weigh ins this year, which unfortunately is about the same number of actual jockstraps you would see. But lots of pink and bright green and patterned very tight underwear choices happily paraded around the locker rooms. Guys seem to prefer the styles that hide very little now, BIG change from 6 or 7 years ago. Showering is back on the increase again and has been for a few years and the comfort level to just hang out is pretty lax with a lot of guys. Many actually spend more time in the shower than in the rest of the locker room.
And as far a pics and videos, hell they will take them of themselves and share them online with friends of either sex.
They say each generation of guys is a little taller than their parents, I believe they are longer too, if you know what I mean. some of it is their grooming habits. But the guys at the college last night after practice would have made the guys in this video seem both shy and small by comparison.

It was very interesting to read your perspective on this. Thank-you! I too have noticed that showering communally seems to be on the increase again, and the absurd towel dance seems to be on the decrease. As I mentioned before, I now work out at the Y and use the plus locker room which is mostly populated by guys in my age group and older. However, in the last couple of years I have noticed an increase of younger guys in there. Because this locker room comes at a premium price every month, only guys that want to use the amenities provided will sign up for it. With nudity being the rule rather than the exception in the plus locker room, modest guys that can't get over themselves tend to disappear quickly and use the basic locker room that offers no amenities such as towel service, lounge, hot tub and steam room. The basic locker room has a communal shower like the plus locker room, but I don't know if many of the guys use it. Where I live, -20C is the average temperature now. It amazes me how some young guys will come to the Y dressed in their shorts and t-shirt to avoid going into the locker room all together. This does seem to be in the extreme minority though.

It has been a couple of years since I last used the athletic centre at my university because it is in such deplorable shape. The last time I was there, the wrestling team was totally cool with being nude while cutting in the sauna, walking around the locker room nude, and opting for the Bradley shower poles instead of the stalls in the shower room. I will probably go back there once the reconstruction is done in a couple of years. It will be interesting to see what the attitude is like then. Being 47, I have never understood this whole modesty thing in the locker room as it didn't exist when I was younger. Any guy that behaved modestly in the locker room or shower when I was younger was teased relentlessly and called a "fag". The first time I noticed it was back in 1997 when at a private gym I saw a young guy shower in his shorts in the communal shower. I'm not trying to be cruel here, but I honestly thought he was mentally challenged and didn't know any better. The fact that everyone else in the large open shower room was naked while showering didn't clue him into how strange his behaviour was. Little did I know this would become a trend for the next 15 years. Maybe it was something to do with the video the OP mentioned. I knew that video existed on the internet, but it didn't change my behaviour in the locker room and shower. I'm in good shape for my age and don't look my age, so I get a lot of stares in the locker room and shower. I still won't change my behaviour though. If some guy later on rubs one out thinking of me naked, what do I care? It's not like I'm being forced to participate. I always say it's when people stop looking at me that I'll worry! Stares and glances tell me that I'm doing something right.

Hidden cameras can be anywhere. It happens in gyms too. I caught an 18 year old Mexican filming me with his cell phone once while I was naked in a sauna once and he got away with it. Hidden cameras are not limited to sports. It is the risk of being naked. If anyone sees a cell phone in an inappropriate situation the correct response is "that is a filming device. Put it away". If they don't then tell a staff member.

The last time I felt this kind of camraderie was Spa Castle in Texas. I loved that place. Guys would look me over and I just smiled at them. Some stared or looked over and over. Great naked place for men in the bathing area. If I was single perhaps someone may have been invited to my hotel room too. I do wish more places were this open with nudity. I'd rather be naked in a whole area of a place. People are not allowed to walk in with clothes.

I watched an evolution of locker rooms over the years. Gone are the gang showers and in with the double curtian showers. Not only do you have a curtain for the shower but a small changing "room" with a curtain too. I'm not sure why recreation center would want a lot more to clean but that's the trend. Most (not all )of the younger guys at my rec center either keep their shorts on as they walk to the shower, don't take a shower or do the towel dance. Most (not all) the older men take showers and have no problem being naked.

Just an observation. I don't think people who cover up are doing it because they are afraid that someone might be taking their picture, I think it's more of what they become comfortable with. To each his own! Just get to the gym and work out and keep healthy!

This ^^^.
I was in HS in 1970 and mid 70 in college.
Perhaps some guys were not so comfortable with it - but the showers were common showers ( 3 a 4 guys under 1 big sprinkler ) and there was only 1 dress room - it was more a dress-hall.

The only guy that was not comfortable by it was not the one with a small penis but an overweight guy ( 1 of the 20 ) - but not obese.
But if I look now at the HS kids today - 1 out of 10 is obese... ( that means for my height 104 kg or more - that's actual 20 kg more than I weight now )
