I really loved this man's man of an actor. Damn good looking, hard drinking and politically incorrect. Read his bio last year and mention was made of his prodigious cock. Anyone know what Reed's size was?

Sorry to disappoint, but Ken Russell is on record as saying that neither Reed nor Bates was well endowed.Check out the 'interview?!' on the Aspel chat show when he was as pissed as a fart! HILARIOUS.....

Apparently both gentlemen were initially quite reluctant to shoot that particular scene and not, as would be expected, because of the possible homo-erotic sub-text it offered, but because of their ego's. Both were afraid of being 'shown up' by the other. Eventually they resolved the matter by going off set to inspect one another's equipment and returned shortly to carry on with the scene, being satisfied that they were both equally male in that department...

"Son's and Lover's" - starring a young and fetching Dean Stockwell, right?

The closest parallel to Oliver Reed amongst today's actors is Javier Bardem: very similar build, face and demeanor (though Reed was even more rough-trade).

I heard - and I think according to both Reed and Russell - the night before filming the nude wrestling scene in Women in Love, Reed and Bates got very drunk and decided to strip off to compare and break the ice. That done, both felt less worried about the scene though apparently also indulged in a quick solo wank just before to ensure that each was seen at his best.

Something tells me this was the first mainstream cinema full frontal male nudity.

I've just seen the clip of this famous wrestling scene and it seems that the naughty bits were blacked out. Does it exist in a non-censored version ?

Thanks, have found it in all its uncensored magnificent, sweaty splendour. How these two hunks didn't actually get massive hard-ons during the filming is beyond my comprehension.
