What are people's opinions on this?
In the UK porn sites have to have age verification to show pornographic material as of yesterday. I had a look at Pornhub to see what would happen and yep, there it is. I can't access it unless I provide proof of my age, i.e. a photo of my passport or driving license.
There is absolutely no way I will be providing this to a porn site. I'm sure Pornhub is very reputable (apart form in one aspect obviously) but would I really trust a random website with this? They can use a third party verification service but I don't think these are regulated. I personally think it is a hideous invasion of privacy. I get the motives behind it, so children can't access porn. It reminds me of the 90s "video nasties" in the UK, a group of films that were banned because they would warp children's minds and turn them into psychopathic killers. Out of these films I had already seen Childsplay and actively tried to seek out one of the others called Zombie Flesh Eaters. Did they turn me a into a killer? No, I found they hilariously bad and I still to this day have not killed anyone.
I have a VPN fro work, so I decided to log in with that, turned it on to USA and there you go, pornhub is available. Literally all I do is turn the VPN on and I'm past the block. There is always a way past these things, and I suspect if they clamp down on VPNs etc (which would be bad for a multitude of reasons UK politicians are too technologically inept to understand) people will just go to the dark web, so you can see where this is goin.

What do people in the UK think of this?

Do you fear using a porn site and the details being leaked in a hack? Are you gay and in the closet? Would you be happy that your details are logged looking at gay porn if there is a hack or data leak?

It's censorship and not right at all i dont know one person in the UK who is happy with this i am of course using a VPN as are most people now and they are not just coming for porn either but anything that could have something thats adult on it even reddit and message boards, forums discord, twitter you name it. Sign the Petition if you want something done about it Petition: Repeal the Online Safety Act

Signed.
I think a lot of people in the UK have a very limited view of politic, only taking interest if it is about migrants and small boats so this is likely to have passed 97% of people by and even if they had heard of it they probably didn't understand the implications beyond the "we need to protect the children" BS. They will get a nasty shock when they next want a wank...

I'd be happy about it if I ran a VPN business...

I think that it's good that children won't have such easy time seeing pornography. We'll probably look back on the previous twenty years as a very unfortunate free-for-all period that did more harm than good to people's minds and behaviour.

That said, I'm also absolutely not going to upload my ID to any porn sites, or dating apps.

Perhaps forcing me off porn sites and dating apps will be a blessing in disguise - I don't think that either has done me much long term good, looking back. We'll see.

Yeah, it is crazy how they could access pretty much anything, I was just chatting to someone about porn magazines, In my day you had to face the humilation of walking into a shop, picking up a porn magazine, standing in the queue, then be told sorry, you can't buy this

THB one thing that is worrying me more about this is where does it go. The rules are easily bypassed with a VPN, I've done it already today with 2 clicks, the media is reporting that sales have skyrocked for VPNs due to children using them but in reality I think it is adults doing it so not to upload sensitive data to a dodgy porn site. I fear it is going to be framed as VPNs evil and bad, ban them. It is creeping into other stuff like Reddit which is the main worry. i think the gov would be happy if everyone had to "log on" to the internet with ID to browse anything.

Anyway, VPNs are here now and then there is always Tor which can't be stopped. But I'm not sure pushing the general public to dark web capable browsers is a great idea... (not that our politicians would have any fucking idea what that means)

Free speech is getting censored though with this online safety act it's not just porn and at the end of the day going back to porn since this is a porn site basically porn is fantasy entertainment and if adults want to watch porn they should same with teens part of growing up is discovering yourself and what you like and porn is helpful for that of course young kids should not be accessing it that's never been a question though because ultimately it's the parents job to monitor their young children and what they access people don't like the idea of posting selfies or credit card info to porn sites that might be hackable people like their own privacy and what kinks they're into should not be of a worry that it could get hacked and exposed those with kinks and of course some people might be in the closet still so a selfie with their porn data next to them could be devastating ultimately this should not be a thing.

Can anyone report on what grindr traffic is like post verification? Are there way fewer people? Has the type of person on there changed? Is it better as an experience for you?

I suspect that there will be far fewer people, but most with photos, the out and proud kind, with no DL guys left. Is that right?

This is only the beginning and any effort to repeal these authoritarian laws will fail. Soon you will be required to provide ID or biometric facial scans just to use google maps. And Spotify is already demanding ID just to stream music/podcasts.
You got to be fucking kidding me.

I wish it was a joke but it’s not. It’s a dystopian nightmare. YouTube has also rolled out a new ID verification system controlled by AI. If the system believes you are under 18 and notices you are suddenly viewing Fortnite videos and youth centric content the AI will ask you to submit ID. If you refuse your account will be severely limited or become inaccessible.

The agenda 2030 must be coming soon

US folk get a lot of misinformation about the UK. the policy was created by the previous government, not Labour or Keir Starmer. The stuff about two tier is also nonsense, we are not being overran by immigrants, that is just right wing bollocks being spread by Trump, Vance etc.
I find it ironic that Vance and Trump say they are concerned about freedoms in the UK when what they are trampling over ever check and balance.
