Online Safety Act (UK) - you now have to provide personal details to look at porn...

So the OP posted and then whines when others don't agree with him. Like, one MUST agree with him?

He does raise some interesting points, though.

Could details be leaked, especially by people in the closet? Yes. That can happen now, though. Even with security protocols or Data Protection legislation, there is no perfect system to stop all leaks. If one signs up for an OF account, that data can be leaked. If one buys a porn studio sub, that can be leaked. Even one's Tesco Clubcard info can be leaked. That's a hazard of the digitised world we live in. A person who buys sex toys from Ann Summers can have their details leaked. The point is, there are already avenues for this to happen, and the best we can do is have strong Data Protection laws and make sure companies have good IT security.

Is it a violation of free speech? Technically, no, since porn isn't being banned. It's already illegal for people under 18 to buy porn. This just reinforces what has been in place for decades.
Comparing it to horror movies is false IMHO. Sexuality is a different mode of life from seeing actors on film getting slashed. Yes, porn isn't real-life sex, and it's fantastical and not representative of real sex. But many do watch porn to live out fantasies, and people obviously have sex in the real world. So the ramifications of each content form are different. The idea that horror movies or video games cause violence is baseless, and little to no evidence supports such. They're mainly banned for kids since they're too sensitive to handle the graphic scenes involved.

I get the opposition to this, but it seems a lot of it is half-baked.

And there are no real comebacks or alternatives cited. Not many detractors in the public domain have said how protecting kids and protecting freedom of expression can be properly balanced.

This isn't even just a UK-specific thing. It's something being done across the EU and in many US states. It's funny Americans in this thread commenting on how "unfree" the UK is when their POTUS they voted in by a landslide is deporting LEGAL migrants. And half of the states of his country recently banned abortion and would make being trans illegal if they had the choice. But they cite the recent UK ruling as how "bad" Britain is when theyr'e up to worse. Orange-loving fools.

I certainly agree with that point @coordinatedchaos about the US vs UK. The comparable liberalism of UK laws up to now is a universe away from the US, look at the rigid conservatism of the MPAA compared with the leniency of the BFCC. Look at how shocking Janet Jackson's (inadvertent) covered boob was, when the UK allowed all manner of flesh on show, and still does in some contexts.

What we're going through, here and the US, is a rise in extreme conservative values, one which will hurt us all, on freedom of expression, and freedom to object grounds alike.

Re:cover up accusations; I do accept that South Yorkshire Police are perhaps the most obvious example of a police force with severe corruption issues, including Hillsborough but also covering other subjects too. It's maybe too complex an argument to get into here.

Is this a joke? From where I sit it’s extreme liberalism that seeks to silence free speech. We suffered through years of that in the US when our own government pressured social media companies to shadow ban and silence all voices against the covid vaccine mandates and lockdowns. And in the UK your government is arresting people for online posts. That’s not a conservative principle, that’s authoritarianism!

I wasn’t talking to you so why are you replying to me? Your recent comments on this thread proves you’re only here to troll so you shall be ignored and avoided like pigeon shit on a park bench.

Wait, what?
I did not whine when others disagreed with me, what on earth are you talking about?
I never said everyone must agree with me.

It is a discussion. if people want to discuss my post in a constructive and calm manner then great. There is absolutely no need to bring an attitude in and start calling people c#nts.

If you don't want to discuss in a polite and friendly manner then I have absolutely zero interest continuing this conversation.

I come here to enjoy myself and not get angry with people.
