Online Safety Act (UK) - you now have to provide personal details to look at porn...

US folk get a lot of misinformation about the UK. the policy was created by the previous government, not Labour or Keir Starmer. The stuff about two tier is also nonsense, we are not being overran by immigrants, that is just right wing bollocks being spread by Trump, Vance etc.
I find it ironic that Vance and Trump say they are concerned about freedoms in the UK when what they are trampling over ever check and balance.

Completely agree about misinformation and the two tier nonsense, but don't let Labour off the hook on this law. They were pushing the Tories to go further in the online safety act, even supporting banning content that was not illegal, merely 'harmful' by some vague definition. Plus we've seen a government minister subsequently smear anyone who criticises the Act as effectively shilling for Jimmy Savile.

Yeah I'm defo not letting them, off! That minister who said that should apologise, even if it was directed at Farage (who I have no respect for) it is totally inappropriate and wrong. I am fully against this law but that does not make me Jimmy Savile!
I saw Jimmy Wales (creator of Wikipedia) saying it might mean his site or parts of it could be blocked which is insane. A free open source of credible information in a misinformation age being blocked... You couldn't make it up.
The issue is our politicians are dinosaurs, they have no grasp of technology so try to control it when they can't and don't understand the consequences. At least they have backed down about back door access to Apple's systems, which is fundamentally impossible as Apple would need to break it's own encryption, not that any politician would have any idea what that means.

I don't know what you got up to, but I have no idea what you mean by playing doctor - as if that should be encouraged.

Pornography isn't speech, so it has nothing to do with free speech. There are surely ways to aid TEENAGERS AND YOUNG ADULTS (NOT CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) with understanding healthy ways to debut their sexual lives, but leaving it to pornography to be their guide most certainly is not it. You neglect all the harm that the age of porn has done, including warping expectations.

Please, no more A4 long rants.
Speech isn't just literal speech or speaking. A painting comes under free speech.

Free speech is getting censored though with this online safety act it's not just porn and at the end of the day going back to porn since this is a porn site basically porn is fantasy entertainment and if adults want to watch porn they should same with teens part of growing up is discovering yourself and what you like and porn is helpful for that of course young kids should not be accessing it that's never been a question though because ultimately it's the parents job to monitor their young children and what they access people don't like the idea of posting selfies or credit card info to porn sites that might be hackable people like their own privacy and what kinks they're into should not be of a worry that it could get hacked and exposed those with kinks and of course some people might be in the closet still so a selfie with their porn data next to them could be devastating ultimately this should not be a thing.
Porn isn't being made illegal. It's already technically unlawful for kids to see porn. The entire point of making vids or film 18 and above reflects that.

Are you American? We are talking about the UK 🇬🇧
Yes, I am aware. Though don't assume others don't know topics, you goofy arsehole.

Read a book on what free speech/expression is. In any country, it's not just about speech or spoken words. Sensitive people like you with poor social reading are amusing to behold. Maybe cite a reason why my definition of free expression is false.

Lmao. 🤣 Another "goofy" American who thinks that their laws are international, and that ad hominems make them "smaaaart". Sweetheart, go and study UK law and then come back here to comment. Big hug.

You have clear cognitive problems. and you dont know what freedom of expression means.
Yes, it's not just related to speech or actual spoken words.

Another sensitive and goofy dope, probably some uneducated northerner. And porn can encompass free expression - Online Safety Act: Privacy Threats and Free Speech Risks - The Constitution Society

But since you don't know what freedom of expression actually means - relating to the dissemination of books, videos, film, or any ideas in any medium actually - then i'll leave your retarded arse to learn better social engagement and better relational skills overall. Morevower, you attacked me, so i'll in kind to some random stranger online. especally one with a limited social understanding. i guess your kindergarten told you everybody had to be nice to you, no matter what.

What are people's opinions on this?
In the UK porn sites have to have age verification to show pornographic material as of yesterday. I had a look at Pornhub to see what would happen and yep, there it is. I can't access it unless I provide proof of my age, i.e. a photo of my passport or driving license.
There is absolutely no way I will be providing this to a porn site. I'm sure Pornhub is very reputable (apart form in one aspect obviously) but would I really trust a random website with this? They can use a third party verification service but I don't think these are regulated. I personally think it is a hideous invasion of privacy. I get the motives behind it, so children can't access porn. It reminds me of the 90s "video nasties" in the UK, a group of films that were banned because they would warp children's minds and turn them into psychopathic killers. Out of these films I had already seen Childsplay and actively tried to seek out one of the others called Zombie Flesh Eaters. Did they turn me a into a killer? No, I found they hilariously bad and I still to this day have not killed anyone.
I have a VPN fro work, so I decided to log in with that, turned it on to USA and there you go, pornhub is available. Literally all I do is turn the VPN on and I'm past the block. There is always a way past these things, and I suspect if they clamp down on VPNs etc (which would be bad for a multitude of reasons UK politicians are too technologically inept to understand) people will just go to the dark web, so you can see where this is goin.

What do people in the UK think of this?

Do you fear using a porn site and the details being leaked in a hack? Are you gay and in the closet? Would you be happy that your details are logged looking at gay porn if there is a hack or data leak?
If a person pays for a site's content, that still can be leaked. They can easily trace the details to a person, and they have to.

I personally don't see the issue. Kids really shouldn't be seeing porn. Lots of things are restricted to under-18s. It's already illegal for under-18s to buy porn. Lots of data is already in the hands of many companies, so why do people care about this? There is already scope to leak points. Information even from people with supermarket club cards is leaked. So there's n reason why the same cannot happen now with Babestation, Bangbros, or other adult platform.

And it's not just the UK. Lots of European countries and American states are doing it.

You know NOTHING about UK law. Stop embarrassing yourself and proving stereotypes correct.

I am British, you dumb cunt.

Free speech has a single definition. It's application differs per country based on traditions, political culture, etc.
I only really engage with people with good groundings of topics. I just said that free speech pertains to any comunicated point over any medium, including porn. this is factual. i dunno what your issue is, unless you want me to laugh at uneducated people with cognitive matters.

ANd part of the issue here is that people have false views of what free spoexh

Same can happen with onlyfans, even before the new law.

It's censorship and not right at all i dont know one person in the UK who is happy with this i am of course using a VPN as are most people now and they are not just coming for porn either but anything that could have something thats adult on it even reddit and message boards, forums discord, twitter you name it. Sign the Petition if you want something done about it Petition: Repeal the Online Safety Act
I personally don’t mind it. Too much empty whining.
