My first was with a female physician who had me lie on the exam table on my side with one knee raised. She had a pretty rough touch and though her exam was only five seconds or so, I felt it the rest of the day.
For a prostate examination my General Practitioner makes me lie on my left side with my legs drawn up to my stomach. That is exactly the way most of the female Physicians have me position myself. The male Physician has something different that always made me feel somewhat vulnerable. They may do the same as the female Physician now as it has been many years since I have seen a male primary care Physician. I have never seen a Urologist.
My GP has my lie on my back with my knees bent.
Go to the 2 min mark. It's old, but the procedures are the same.
I just did this back in November. Pretty spot on regarding format, routine, exam.
Did you have to urinate in bottles in front of your doctor ?
My first prostate exam ended up with a diagnosis of prostate cancer, followed by a biopsy, seed implant and radiation. Now, after 4 years I see my urologist every 6 months for follow up, and the visit always includes a prostate exam. Thankfully, so far everything is normal. So, no one should hesitate having this procedure done...it could be beneficial to everyone's health.
