That is exactly the way most of the female Physicians have me position myself. The male Physician has something different that always made me feel somewhat vulnerable. They may do the same as the female Physician now as it has been many years since I have seen a male primary care Physician. I have never seen a Urologist.

For a prostate examination my General Practitioner makes me lie on my left side with my legs drawn up to my stomach.
My Urologist makes me stand beside the examination bed and bend forward with my chest on the bed.
I mentioned this to my General Practitioner and he said styles varied according to where medical people did their training. As long as they feel what they are supposed to feel I suppose it does not matter.

My GP has my lie on my back with my knees bent. This doesn’t seem like the easiest to get to my ass, but it worked. He also lingered in there for like 20 secs and I started leaking. He used his free hand to check my penis. All in all was one of the best rectals I’ve had!!

My dad's doctor did my first prostate exam and that is exactly how he did it. I felt so exposed!

No, that was the only difference, no bottles. And I did not have a gown either.

I was nervous my first time too. I went to a urologist who was a pleasant enough guy. The nurse had me give urine sample. As I’ve come to know the urologist always wants a tribe sample. The doctor came into the exam room and asked me about medical history and about any urinary or sexual problems. Then he scooted his stool into the center of the room and told me to face him and to take down my pants and underwear. It was embarrassing to stand there with my stuff inches from his face. He examined my genitals and then asked me to bend over the table. He scooted his stool behind me and then talked me through the exam. It was over in 30 seconds. I pulled up my clothes and that was it. No pain at all.

I've been having them since I was 40 and I will be 59 this year. Never has a nurse or Dr. made me get totally naked. He checks everything out like throat, ears, eyes, reflexes and such and then says drop your pants and I do. These days he doesn't even check my testicles, he just says bend over the table and you're going to feel a little pressure and he lubes up and it's done. My Dr. even wipes the excess lube off my ass when done. End of exam!

Now, after 4 years I see my urologist every 6 months for follow up, and the visit always includes a prostate exam. Thankfully, so far everything is normal. So, no one should hesitate having this procedure done...it could be beneficial to everyone's health.

Thank goodness everything is okay; may it stay that way. I agree about the importance of the exam. Unfortunately so many make jokes about it ( just watch the Youtube " comedy" videos) and you see how the whole idea of a prostate exam has taken on a light tone, making it seem not serious. Don't see the same with mammograms or pap smears.

My doctors P.A. does all my exams. He will usually examine my penis and balls then have me turn around and bend over. Lubes his finger and feels around and then he will wipe me and give me extra tissue to finish. Disposes of his glove and says nothings changed and that is the end of it. An unfortunate, but very important part, of being a man and having a Prostate.

My first was at age twenty-two.I had gotten an STD from a woman (one of the few) and been treated at the college health center. It then recurred as epdidimitis, TWICE. At the second recurrence I requested a referral to a urologist knowing that a prostate exam was almost certainly in store. I was a bit nervous but determined to be definitively treated. Sure enough, that is what happened. He took a smear of pre-cum on a slide and pronounced me all clear. I was.
I am glad I had my first one when I was young because it removed my anxiety at the prospect of future exams.

My first prostate exam was awful. I didn't know that I was allergic to latex. The prostate exam itself was ok. The Dr. was gentle enough. But it took two prescriptions to get rid of the infection I got from the latex. Lesson learned.

Because there is a lots of history of cancer on my mother’s side of the family, my doctor started doing prostate exams when I was only 30 years old. They don’t hurt, but it freaks me out so much that I just tense up my whole body which makes it worse. Luckily they only take a minute. My former doctor (one of the other doctors in this practice) used to make jokes while doing it to get me to relax. He even told me that in med school his class had to practice on each other before they did it on a patient. So he would laugh and say it was a good thing he didn’t have Have big hands. My current doctor just keeps talking to get me to relax.

My philosophy is that a minute or two of slight discomfort is better than having to have surgery and do any kind of cancer treatment.

I was 21. Went to urologist because I had problem with itchy urethra.
I wasn't expecting it. He just said to take pants down, spread legs and bend a little.
Next thing he did was shoving his finger up my anus.

If you have a family history of prostate cancer, or not, start getting checked every year or so by your GP or urologist. Both my father and I were diagnosed at about the same age (60s) and both of us had our prostates removed. We are both fortunate that the cancer was detected early and as of this writing I'm cancer free. (Dad passed in 2014).
For me the exam was a bit dehumanizing, bent over the table and having the doc lube up and poke around. I got the feeling that they might have been a bit uncomfy as well, LOL.

Just had a physical this morning and of course the prostate exam and this is the first time it has happened, but the few seconds that his finger was checking my prostate I actually shot out some cum!!!! He did not see, but landed on the gown that I was wearing. OMG he hit it just right. I've played with my prostate for a long time and so have others, but never have I felt the extreme rush you get one you hit the spot so fast.
Oh well, it felt good for the few seconds he was up there!
