I didnt even know him - not even born when he died actually - but still feel kinda suffocated when i think abt his death
River was gorgeous and an excellent actor. It's scary how much time has past since he passed away. I recall reading that James Cameron wanted him to play Jack in Titanic a while ago, so his career would have only got bigger and bigger had he stayed away from drugs 
Unfortunately, he had weaned himself off hard drugs at the time of his death. If he hadn't, he might have survived the toxic drink he was given. He needed to stay away from certain people in the music scene, and that's what got him.

I think he and Brad Renfro were so talented and handsome. A great loss.
Brad Renfro was tragic too.. I LOVED "The Client" the scenes at the airport at the end always tugs the heart strings :'(

Interesting. I always wonder what his post-1993 career would have looked like, and the answer is, probably a lot like Leo’s. I can easily picture him in Romeo + Juliet, and Spielberg would have cast him again for sure, probably in Catch Me If You Can. I know Gus Van Sant was eager to work with him again on a young Andy Warhol project and Volker Schlondorf wanted him as Arthur Rimbaud and John Malkovich as Paul Verlaine in a project that didn't come together, (so playing gay again, but a very different characters) Leo did play him in Holland's Total Eclipse. He was due to meet with Terry Gilliam right before he died, but for what I have no clue. Loads of great filmmakers were interested.
As River would have most certainly tried to avoid type casting, not many queer roles, if any, would have been made with him. He would have declined them. But he had a very good chance to get to play Jack in Titanic.
Those were both projects HE was interested in, and was actively researching in the weeks and months before his death. He had no problem playing gay, Warhol and Rimbaud are two vastly different human beings anyway.
