River Phoenix

My neighbour is Joaquin Pheonix. I knew River, not well but I knew him enough to know he was a nice guy.

My apologies, I miss represented myself on this post. I USED to live next door to Joaquin, this is years ago, and had the pleasure of meeting River a few times through Joaquin. River seemed like a nice guy. We were not best friends, or hang out buddies. He's just a guy I met three times briefly.

Don't worry, rugyby. Your avatar is also great, too. I am not leaving out in the open.

Well, cowboyfireman, the only time you see River with a hard-on was in The Life of Jimmy Reardon when the mistress licks River's stomach.

I've never really understood people's obsession to celebrity, even long dead ones. Frankly it's a little sick.

Take Princess Dianne for example. A nation mourned... what the fuck for?

She was born into wealth, lived in a style of life 99.9% of people will never have, married into title, did a host of charity representations by being patron to numerous organisations (not actually charity field work) and sadly died in a car accident.

10 years of people crying conspiracy and mourning.

Mother Teressa died in the same week. A woman who did more for the name of charity than Diana ever did. Yet she slipped away, never heard about again.

People, society, can be gross.... and all for the sake of limelight and a bit of bling.
You are ranting. WE GET IT. NOW MOVE ALONG! JESUS! You don't understand being interested in celebrities, but your in the celebrity discussion of the forum.

You know - petty arguing about spelling and bitchiness really get us nowhere, and it cheapens the conversation for those of us who actually have something to say about River.

GETTING BACK ON TOPIC -

River was one of my first real crushes growing up. I admired his acting, his sensitivity shown through his performances, and, though I didn't really understand it at my young age, I was so unbelievably attracted to him.

It sounds stupid now, but I used to obsess over the shirtless shots I would see of him in teen magazines, and pause my VHSs for bulge shots in his films. To that end - he looked like he was really packing.

I was very young when he died, but I remember how hard it hit me because I just thought he seemed like such an amazing person.

I've read a ton of bios on him, and the Running on Empty poster is framed above my desk (it's actually my all time favorite movie).

River was a very HOT, very beautiful and very talented man and doubtlessly would have gone on to greater performances down the road. It's too bad some of his choices in the last years of his life (he was introduced to drugs while shooting PRIVATE IDAHO and got caught up in it) snuffed out the light he had been sharing with the world.

I still have fantasies at times about having sex with Harry Truman, William Bendix, James Beard, William James, Dan Blocker, Don DeFore, Heinrich DeBary-fantasies keep things rolling.
I can't decide between Howdy Doody or Buffalo Bob, but not Clarabel the Clown.

I'd advise you to go with Bob. Although HD is weirdly attractive, he could leave you digging splinters out for several days:biggrin1:.

As to Clarabell, I prefer to think of the Bob Keeshan version and of course Keeshan went on to become Captain Kangaroo and I have to admit I would have liked to check his pouch out. Lew Anderson wasn't bad as Clarbell either and with those big feet (which all clowns have) we just know(I read it here on LPSG) that he had a humongously long penis (again, I learned that fact about big feet=big penis here at LPSG <never found it to be true in real life>).

And what is the correct spelling for Clarabell? Is it one L, 2 Ls or 2 Ls and an E? I find all the spellings all over the Internet.

To stay back on topic, there was a good River Phoenix created by a woman that a lot of great rare River Phoenix. A good one was the bulge shot when he jumped in mid air(Post Stand By Me and Running On Empty era) and there is a great shot of the bulge which looked like he was definitely packing.

The only movie I remember seeing River in was Stand by Me. I like Joaquin and think he's an excellent actor. After John Belushi died, his brother, Jim, became a star. And after River died, Joaquin became a star.

I wonder if they would have made it without their older brother's names and tragic deaths? Maybe and maybe not. And Freddie Prinze Jr. may have never made it if he hadn't had his famous name.

Well put, atreyu. I feel exactly the same way about River and couldn't have put it any better. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks atreyu500, and thanks to you Meniscus. You are right! Tearing people down and negative comments gets no one nowhere, and it reflects on the one making the comment. Unless it adds to the conversation and makes the conversation worthwhile to everyone - why do it?

Good call, Dave.

He had a really crazy life. Sexualized at a very young age, renewed virginity, had trouble trusting people, getting close. Very in touch with his emotions, but very confused by them at the same time. Fascinating guy.
