Ryan was literally in an interview with Oliver for ET last night and giggled about Buddie. I keep seeing this discourse about Ryan being a homophobe or something and I don't understand it.

exactly. If Tim wants it, Ryan would gladly do it. He is not against gay men or buddie in general or is homophobic. He has played a gay character before.

Some of us still remember what happened with Moonlighting. Everyone and their mother wanted David and Maddie to get together. But when they eventually did the show went off the rails, and was cancelled fairly soon after. It was like no one had noticed how crucial the unfulfilled tension between the two was for the show. The show was messy in other ways as well, but still.

Obviously Moonlighting and 9-1-1 don't have much in common but it's still a good reminder that sometimes the tension between the characters is there for a reason. For whatever reason Buck and Eddie are dynamite together. I wouldn't be surprised to find they are together in real life and we're picking up the vibe. That said probably not. Sometimes people just are perfect for each other.

The most horrible outcome would be if the writers decided to go with the most realistic route and make Buck fall hopelessly in love with Eddie without getting anything back. We've all been there and it's one of the most tragic things that can happen. It's very dramatic which is why I fear Tim Minear might just go there.

If Ryan Guzman is in the closet it's a tale as old as Hollywood. A gorgeous hunky star secretly loves men but can't be open about it for a fear of destroying his career. And in his case apparently disappointing his family and friends.

If that is how things are he's not exactly wrong. You get typecast and miss out on major roles. I see him wanting to get his own show at some point, a la Shemar Moore or even Titus Welliver, although to be fair it's mostly his looks we're after. Not that he hasn't been just perfect as Eddie but still.

He seemed so sweet in that thirst tweets video. A bit surprisingly he and Oliver don't really seem to be that close to each other. Sure their banter is hilarious but you can sense they're coming from very different places. Ryan does come off more or less gay in some of his interviews where as Oliver seems like your basic British actor. I tend to view all actors as bi but with Oliver I'm thinking he might actually be straight, and totally fine with gay people. I've known some British men (I live in Europe) and they're one of the most gay friendly people I've met. If I'd have to bet I'm sort of thinking that Oliver might be trying to get Ryan come out of the closet.

Sure it would be awesome if they were actually dating. Unfortunately we're probably getting happy endings for Buddie or Ryliver only from fanfic. I'd like to be wrong, though.
