Using a sponge or washcloth isn’t necessary unless you’re absolutely fucking filthy. A dermatologist on YouTube broke down the science and basically all the stuff you want to get rid of is washed away with soap and water. Water that’s too hot, or using an overly aggressive abrasive is damaging to your skin barrier. There’s this ideology that you have to scrub the fuck outta your skin when you’re actually doing harm … and don’t get me started if you’re not using a clean dry washcloth every time either. If you’re worried about dead skin a lotion with alpha hydroxy acid put on after bathing is the best. The acid breaks down the bonds that hold the dead skin on and the lotion locks in the moisture.
