mainstream straight porn companies used to hire male talent based on sexual performance—ability to get hard, stay hard, and cum on command—and attitude—performers are expected to be punctual, agreeable, and take direction no matter what. it's the reason ron jeremy and so much other male talent have had such long careers—and their bodies show it, but many of them still maintain an above average physique—though, i have noticed a shift in talent being hired in the past few years.

i wonder how much the shift has to do with the current economics of porn; significantly less compensation from studios attracts young, inexperienced performers that don't fully understand the market and risks of the profession, but also the ouroborous effect of talent performing in studio porn while also creating and distributing their own content on platforms like onlyfans. i think this will create higher turnover rates similar to female talent in porn, but for significantly different reasons.

Part of it might be changing viewership demographics?

They may be looking to attract more female or younger viewers. Studios like Team Skeet seem to be doing more experimental porn and genre/niche categories like incest fantasies more.

I have to say though that most studio porn still has the awful camera angles of cropping out the guys or the same old focus on closeups. I commented in another thread that Janet Mason's personal site had some great video angles where they show both performers versus the same static angles that studio porn uses. A lot of the studio porn you might as well be watching a woman fuck a dildo lol.

i think that's part of it.

mainstream porn's always been reflective of viewer tastes, which is also why it's so problematic.

mainstream porn is weird: straight porn features straight, but mostly bisexual men having sex with women for an intended straight male audience, "gay" male porn is mostly gay for pay men having sex with each other for a gay male/men who have sex with men (msm) and straight female audience, and "lesbian" porn features gay for pay women having sex with each other for a straight male audience and almost all of it's produced and marketed by straight men.

mainstream straight porn is all about objectifying the women to appeal to the fantasies of the men watching and that audience is very vocal about the angles used during filming. there's a strong demand to eliminate the male talent from view as much as possible. i get that to a certain extent. almost all the porn i watch is for a specific performer or sex act so i want them/that featured as heavily as possible and everything else to be minimized.
