I am considering getting some ink, lol... I'm from samoan/scottish backgrounds, different I know; and was thinking of designing something incorperating symbolism from both.

I like Robbie Magasiva's one here: http://2008.nzfestival.nzpost.co.nz...7f280e91b0c859a966bc8/full/153+NF8FN+5140.jpg

thats the best photo of it I could find... I thought maybe something like that but involving a tartan or something? Although it's quite a permanent thing and would need careful consideration!

Any ideas of how to combine, avoiding tackiness as much as possible?

just went to tattoofinder.com ... couldn't find any mix of the two .... good luck, and keep us posted ... I've been thinking of doing something similar to show off my particular ethnic mix

You could try showing your tattoo artist some examples of things you'd like to incorporate into it, such as Celtic knotwork, or the Celtic animal symbols as well as imagery from your Samoan side. I'd avoid the tartan route as I think you'd probably regret that.

This site's got some pretty good ones on it.
