Just finished 'Korea ; Where the American Century Began' by Michael Pembroke. A learned history of the folly of man, resulting in a divided peninsular, that should never have happened. Eye-opening.

Decided to pick up Fellow Travelers after having loved the tv series. I’ve been trying to work on my reading this summer after having really fallen out of the habit.

I was an English major, so always have books in mind!

I just read The Last Samurai by Helen DeWitt. (Not related to the Tom Cruise movie at all). Absolutely incredible book. It's unusual in its narrative, but still really easy to follow (at least for me). It still feels like a secret book in a sense, but it was featured on the NYT top 100 books of the 21st century!

I'm about to start reading "Exposed" by Jean-Philippe Blondel. It's the story of an old teacher who agrees to pose, possibly nude, for a former student who has become a famous artist.

Just finished "The Man Who Died Twice" by Richard Osman. It was okay, nothing earth shattering but liked some of the characters. Given how much it's talked about and sold I'd have expected more. But it has reinforced by belief that celebrity authors are published at the expense of people who have actual talent to write good fiction. Just cos one is famous shouldn't get an instant book deal.

I've started on "My Name Is Lucy Barton". Such a great book so far.

The graphic novel based on Lovecraft's oeuvre, Providence by Alan Moore and Jacen Burrows. Nicely judged gay protagonist in early 20th century America. A metafictional Horror gem.

"Islamic Empires - Fifteen Cities that Define a Civilization" by Justin Marozzi. Fascinating historical tales of the impact of Islam upon cities and their regions. Recommended.

"Fire Island: A Century in the Life of an American Paradise" by Jack Parlett. It's been over 30 years since I last vacationed on FI but the memories of my times in that gay heaven are priceless.

I've just started reading "Clear" by Carys Davies. It's about a minister sent to a remote Scottish island to clear the last inhabitant during a period in British history called the Highlands Clearances.
