What do you collect?

I shot competition archery for years, and still occasionally go to the shop and shoot for fun, mostly to see the owners and other shooters. Over the years I've accumulated a ton of arrows. At first they just accumulated naturally as I needed new ones, but then I got into collecting different types from different places and different cultures.

Antique Christmas decorations and Lights.

I've got alot of light sets from the 60s 70s and 80s. so if you have any, dont throw em out! send em my way.
I also collect select outdoor figurines for the holidays, or generally anything christmasy from the 60's to 80s. No, my front lawn does not look like a plastic villa during the holidays...some stuff never sees the outdoors anymore.

I also like to collect auto parts. i have so much shit that my shed wont hold anymore, and I'm going to be dumping off alot of parts this september at our local auto swap meet. it goes in vicious cycles. Just when I think I dont need one or the other, and I sell it...BOOM, I need it.
I still look around alot for specialty parts and tools, as most people consider that stuff junk, Its a shame because there are people on the planet like me that need the old parts.
BUT, I always - ALWAYS keep the pontiac parts :)

sigh... ok I'm a serious dork.
I collect rocks and fossils (My best one: A Triceretops frill). I have so so many, and they are actually really impressive; from all over the world. I go to crazy rock shows and whatnot.
I also pin insects that I find. I have a few collections that I bought, but I enjoy finding whole insects already passed, or helping out one or two who are already on their way out, then pinning them up and framing them pretty.

Rocks and fossils are cool. I used to pick up rocks. I even found a rock that had several fossil imprints. It had a small flower, and a worm. I even have a tiny rock from when I went skinny dipping.

Computers... and computer parts...

Anyone here (some must at least), remember 5.25" floppy discs? Or even the 8" floppy discs? Most still work. :biggrin1: Unfortunately, I didn't keep my Commodore 64 or Apple II... (kicking myself for that), but I still do have my Compaq Deskpro 386.

I have a small collection of psycho former boyfriends.

I think you need to have a garage sale hypo!

For years I've collected three-dimensional letters from advertising and signage. I have a lot of old theatre letters in wood and metal from when the marquees were done by hand.

Sadly, yes I do.

I have next to no rose tinted nostaligia when it comes to some things. Early (80s on) personal computer technology was slow, horrendously expensive *, ugly, recalcitrant, proprietory and with few exceptions, utterly crap. The Deskpro series was an especially good example of the all of the above.

* Some blasts from the past:

Creative Computing magazine December 1981
Prediction: The cost for 128 kilobytes of memory will fall below U$100 in the near future.

$100 for 128 kilobytes - 256 megabytes equates to $200,000.

Today's cost - about $12, or less.

How about

5 Mb hard drive at the same time - around $3800.

Today's cost no such thing but - Seagate 500 Gb drive (100 Thousand times the capacity and 1/3 the physical size) $100.

Good riddance to all of it.

I remember when I was little I used to collect pogs and slammers.:) I don't collect anything anymore. Except for money of course.
