Just a quick point...I think it depends on what you consider serious...you can contract STIs like gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, and syphilis, among other things. Be careful out there...
Trimethylaminuria is a metabolic condition in which an individual is not able to convert trimethylamine into a compound called trimethylamine N-oxide. Trimethylamine is the compound that gives fish the fishy odor. Trimethylamine N-oxide does not smell. Trimethylamine builds up in the body of patients with trimethylaminuria. The trimethylamine gets released in the person's sweat, urine, reproductive fluids, and breath, giving off a strong fishy odor. Some people with trimethylaminuria have a strong odor all the time, but most have a moderate smell that varies in intensity over time. Other than the strong fishy odor, individuals with this condition typically appear healthy.

I've experienced this before and as a fellow smell sensitive guy I can empathize with you. I stuck my finger on a guy's asshole just to see if he was clean for fucking. When I took a whiff it was a skanky BO smell, not shit. My theory is that his anal sweat was causing the BO. Instead of BO under the armspits he had it around his sweaty asshole. The thing also was he still smelled around the hole even after he rinsed his crack under the shower.

Google. Anal Mucus smell. Its more common than you think. It could well be a temporary state. Don't let that little fish get away the ocean isn't as big as we would all hope for.

I'd be more concerned than this thread appears to be. Yeast infections (yes men get yeast infections) and as someone else pointed out STD's can also produce a strong smell (not always fish, but sometimes a fishy smell).
You had a condom on so that is good. If you are close with your doctor and he knows you are gay, it may not hurt to question it with him/her. If not, it may not be a bad idea to go to the STD clinics if one is available around you and get tested for STD's and explain to them also. Not trying to scare you Rico.....it's probably nothing....but it never hurts to be sure.

My guess is that the guy had sex earlier or played with his ass earlier (some hours before) and the mucus or cum was still there. It changes it's smell to a fishy smell if it's not very fresh. It was a good idea to wear a condom but I don't mean to say that he had an STD. He just possibly hadn't cleaned out his ass that day before hooking up with you.

As mentioned above, it could have been a male yeast infection which is not uncommon.

It's also possible that he takes fish oil (omega 3) capsules. Some brands impart a strong fishy smell to body odor.

That's it. I've been on those capsules several years ago. My body odor changed. Not really fish, but not my natural odor.
I've the samething with garlic.
