Not to get all sociologically academic, but notice the language: I feel "ten feet tall." Why do humans associate height with quality? We all do it: I "look up to you" = "you're my hero."
Ever hear a mom say, with breathless admiration, that her daughter's new boyfriend is "short" or "Average height"? Never. But you will hear "He's tall."
I'm 5'8" too and I say that's the perfect height!
it's evolution for you - big men are associated with power, with alpha status, with domination. this is universal, not a transient cultural product.
also, women are wired to find tall men attractive. doesn't mean short guys are screwed, just means they have to work a little harder
