I used to see more men in thongs here in southern California in the 90's. Today, it's almost nonexistent. At Venice Beach, they used to hang out by the handball courts on the sand and in the less populated area away from the boardwalk south of Venice Blvd. Mostly young in-shape guys. At Alamitos Beach in Long Beach, CA I would see many guys sunbathing in thongs, past 54th street near Horny Corner. The Long Beach crowd would be almost totally shaved smooth with the smallest g-strings sometimes. I would think they were girls until I got closer. That was around 1998 or so for Long beach and 1992-93 for Venice. I remember while on a bike ride in Santa Monica in about 1993 there was a guy about 21 wearing a thong walking to his car. He was being catcalled by a group of young women. Hardly ever see any of that today. I think it's the board shorts and long basketball short revolution along with the nation's regressiveness back to the victorian era for men is the cause. In the 70's and 80's men would wear real short pants. Now if it's above the knee, you're considered a homosexual or something.
