Why men don't wear speedos, bikinis, string bikinis or even g strings to the beach

No idea - huge speedo fan here - wish our culture was one where guys were encouraged to show their bodies off - like Brazil & Italy

Here in Rio de Janiero now and the difference is fascinating. Not only do they wear Speedos or box cut but they wear them off the beach too; on a bus, casual restaurant or walking down the street.

Because they are the most uncomfortable beachwear ever invented. Surf, sand and speedos do not go very well together.

Seriously? I don't agree with that. I think baggy, long shorts that chafe and stay wet and are a pain to actually swim or run in (some of us like to be active at the beach) - are the most uncomfortable ever.
Plus, Jesus the tan lines! LOL

^ could that be most men in the US are overweight and would not look good in one? or is it cultural as women in other western countries do not feel the same way?
I do think that most that wear them...don't have the body too. I know some girls think it's offensive/indecent. Other's think somethings are better left to the imagination. I don't wear them either because I find them more restrictive and worry it would come off in rough surf at the beach.

I sort of like the way boardshorts look better on a dude..they dont have to be uber baggy..they can be tighter and above the knees...I dont like speedos on a guy in general unless they are like swimmers..but I can tolerate them..but no way on a g string on a guy at the beach..it just looks ridiculous and it is like the least sexy beach look on a dude.

I've seen fat European men wearing speedos; they just don't care what others think, they wear what they want to wear!

Well I think European men are more 'adventurous' fashion-wise than typical american men. Also they don't get the blowback from females on how awful they look in them. What has happened in American culture over the last 30 years is the disappearance of what one might call 'male bulge'. Tight jeans...brief underwear. Boxers are in. Very loose jeans are in. Any acknowledgement that you have a dick between your legs is considered crass and in poor taste. Has anyone seen what basketball players used to wear in the 1970's?Today it would be called obscene.

Head across the Atlantic! Europeans have no hang-ups about speedos - or less!!

And THAT is precisely the reason why Americans don't. Right or wrong, we laugh at the European men who wear them, and who are almost always the LAST ones who should. Sort of like it's never the hot chick who goes topless, it's usually the fat old granny.

That said, I'm sure Europeans laugh at us covered up Americans, but at least I'm in pretty decent shape. Still, I wouldn't attempt to pull off wearing a speedo.

I have enjoyed nudity as long as I can remember from very early childhood . In my youth I used to wear the equivalent of Speedos , then very brief bikinis . I was a little concerned when male friends stared at my crotch . Later I discovered a beautiful nudist beach , at first I was afraid I would get an erection among so many nude women , I went into the sea and took off my costume before coming out again , no problem . I do have a string which I sometimes wear on a clothes optional beach , not to offend costumed people nearby .
