On Star Trek TNG the guys were required to wear specific underwear that tucked them a bit so nothing was visible. If you’ve ever seen one of the uniforms in person you’ll know how incredibly flimsy and unforgiving they were. I guess they were filming in the middle of nowhere and he didn’t wear the underwear (if any!).

Maybe the screen tests made them realise they’d have a lot of scenes like this if they didn’t tuck things in. The uniforms in The Motion Picture had some very visible bulges especially on Decker.
