Will Smith

an actor playing a gay role on stage or film means nothing. If he plays a thief or murderer or rapist does it mean that he does that in real life as well?

Yes, thanks for the lecture, Einstein.

Incidentally, I don't think it's good to put "bisexual" in the same category as "rapist" or "murderer."

Here's what I was getting at: Will Smith was coming off of a career in Rap music. Rap music is notorious for being highly homophobic. I found it interesting that coming off of a career in Rap music, Will Smith was able to play a gay man. This could perhaps mean that he is indeed (a) bisexual (and this would explain why he would be sympathetic), or (b) that he simply wanted a good role.

This thread is a question. I wasn't making a statement. And I certainly know that people are not the characters they play. I don't need a lecture. I was just wondering if anyone in Hollywood may have more insight into this. It is relatively well known that many influential people in Hollywood are gay. The sad fact is that due to mainstream homophobia, the sexuality of such people must often be kept in the closet.

On a more personal note, I find Will Smith highly attractive and would love to think that he is also interested in men. Not that I have a chance in hell of getting with him. But one can fantasize.....

Will Smith has set my gaydar off since I was a teenager. His act is too contrived and compensatory. I don't care how long he is married or how many kids his wife pops out.

Well you did inexplicably mention him playing a gay man in "Six Degrees of Separation."

Was in Hollywood a few months ago. A man who has worked in movies said that "everyone" in Hollywood is gay, and that Will Smith, Denzel Washington, and even Eddie Murphy, are all bisexual. He said that Will Smith and his wife are both bisexual and have an open marriage.

At first it sounds implausible because everyone wants the big stars to be gay (at least gay people do). But in retrospect, I always found it surprising that early in his career Will Smith was willing to play a gay man in "Six Degrees of Separation." And, frankly, I felt that he played a gay man "too well." Additionally, I'd always found Will Smith flamboyant and felt there were homoerotic tendencies in his mannerisms.

Anyone in LA or Hollywood have anything to share on this topic?

" a man who worked in movies" LMAO...pure comedy.

it's been talked about for YEARS that will and his wife are big time bisexuals and have swinging parties. i posted something about that like 2 years ago actually. At the time i was living in the new york city area and wendy williams (radio person turned tv talk show host) was on her radio show at the time. She would always talk about the celebs and always tell insider stories about things she had heard or seen at parties and such. She would do what was called blind items and tell the story of what she saw.. then later in the show or the next day she would scream out the persons name mid sentence or interview with someone.. referring back to the blind item.

That was a very long setup i know.. ANYWAY, she called him out ALL the time. He made a rap about her in one of his songs because he hated that she called him out so much. The only thing i can remember specifically that she said about will smith was that he swings with.. (and used to sleep 1 on 1 with) Dwayne Martin who is married to Trisha Campbell who was gina from martin.

... so much gossip.

Someone's being a llittle touchy! I don't think that person meant that. You read it that way. And as you said you'd like Will to be interested in men. And fantasize.

i agree what they portray on film means nothing. It's not comparing them to a rapist it's meaning just because someone plays that role means nothing to fact of who they are. I myself love the fact that a straight man is willing to play a gay role it makes me respect them more for whatever reason.

I think you're being too sensitive about this one.

He didn't say the being "bisexual" is the same as being a "rapist" or "murderer". He is saying that an actor portraying any characteristic or aspect in a movie/play does not mean that certain characteristic is an aspect of that person in reality.

It's been a longstanding rumor that Will bats for both teams. Although he played gay in SDOS, the story goes that he was so uncomfortable having to kiss Anthony Michael Hall in that film, that he consulted Denzel Washington, and actor he admires, on how he should handle it. Supposedly, Denzel told him not to do it if it doesn't feel right, which is why the scene was shot showing the back of Will's head, with the two actors "pretending" to kiss. If you watch the scene, you can tell they're not really kissing at all.
I'm from the same city as Will's wife, Jada, and this not being too big a city, I've met people who know her. I've heard that she was a "wild girl" growing up, so if she and Will do have an open marriage, I wouldn't find it too hard to believe.

I don't know if he's bisexual, but I do know that he is a terrible actor.

You're joking right???

Will Smith is a remarkable actor, and undoubtedly one greatest of our time.

That said, it seems nowadays that bisexual is becoming the "ok gay" per se. All gay is still cliche to most, but if you just occasionally have sex with people of your same gender it's only sorta gay and ok. I'm not sure exactly why/how it works that way in today's society, but it seems to be the stronger viewpoint as time goes on.

To me personally, I don't go around putting labels on things in life and especially not on people. Anyone can hate you for any reason, why let a label that they have involuntarily put on you be that reason?

Everyone in Hollywood is NOT bisexual. Having said that, Will and Jada by all accounts certainly are. And yes, the stories of their swinger parties have circulated for at least 4 to 5 years. I personally have never been invited.

You have to be the one who is joking. The man butchered...BUTCHERED "ALI", and wasn't much good in anything else he's been in besides "The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire" and moments in "Six Degrees of Separation".
