World Cup

Just goes to show you don't sit on a one point lead and try to play keep away for ten minutes. Best defense is a strong offense. They should've gone for three.

By playing keep away, do you mean when they took the ball into the corners? That's pretty standard practice. It's only a bad move in hindsight because Ronnie delivered a perfect ball.

Based on how the game was going, I'd argue they'd have been better served booting the ball back into Portugal's half and parking the bus, given how inept Portugal's passing (and offense as a whole) looked, especially in the second half.

The US deserved to lose to Ghana in the first game. They deserved to win today. Sometimes, fortune smiles upon you. Sometimes, it pisses in your face.

They're still in a good spot to advance.

I for one never thought it good strategy, standard practice or not, to stop doing what was working and go into a primarily defensive posture near game end. It's like that ridiculous "prevent defense" that the Saints like to pull.

After holding their opponents to little yardage all game long, they suddenly go into this four man rush defense and everyone else dropping back (presumably) to "prevent" the big play.

Only, they give up 20-50 yards in short passes, the receiver steps out of bounds and stops the clock, their opponent marches down the field, and before they know it their backs are against the end zone trying to stop a touchdown.

ALWAYS hated it. It's a joke imo. "Prevent defense" usually prevents YOU from winning.

Now its getting interesting...

1/8 finals
Brasil vs chile

Netherlands vs mexico

And if they play like they showed it in the past 3 games, chile and the netherlands will win - but nethroands / mexico will be very tight

consolation game Spain/Australia, know the result, that's cool, but now for the replay ..

Ciao to Cameroon and Croatia..

Some of the arbitrators need to play it by the book and stop receiving money from the other team.. What the hell so bloody obvious when they don't count the dirty foul playing and illegal hand.

SOMEWHAT similar.

I'll just say this: if you love the US men's soccer team (I do not at all), you don't want them playing an open, attack minded game.

If they played like a Chile (who I'm hoping to see win the whole thing), they would be in for a ruder reception than Robb at the Twins.

They've been a pleasant surprise, but they're still an inferior team from a personnel standpoint.

Horrible. Italy is the most unfiar team in the world...
Full of drama queens, do one foul after another to distroy the game and provocate the opponent. But as soon as you give them an evyl eye they fall to the ground and act like they would die...

I hope they lose and are out

behave yourself or i will bite your bum!

as expected no matter what Country the Ref is from
greatest sport in the World huh, filled with fanatical lunatics as well
just accept it and move on idiots

never get such extreme madness in Rugby/League or Cricket even ..
dont try and lay your Centuries of Warring ways on us and SPORT!!! ..

"It's just a moment in time. We're talking about what - 40 to 45 centimetres? Something like that. If the attacker had moved forward a second earlier, or the defender had moved a second earlier, then the decision would have been perfectly correct. It was just one of those things."

Uruguay made my day...
I dudnt know that they have a little tyson in their team

It's not exactly a secret. The only good thing about that match is that it probably will be Suarez' last at this World Cup. When will that moron stop biting other players.

Italy out. That's pretty much it for me.

Has there been anything remotely conclusive to substantiate the biting claim by Chiellini (sp?)?

I saw definite contact, but nothing to definitively say he bit him. Given the Italian tendency to dive and cry at any and all chances, I'm not inclined to side with them without seeing something definite.

He moved with his head to the italian shoulder... as it looks like with his mouth. Propably not a bite but he hit him with his teath.
At the end, the referry should have give bouth a red card. Suarez mouth had nothing to do near the ahoulder, and the italian shouldnt have hit him after the "bite"

But differebt to the german commentator (dont know about other) i think the first red card was justified. The italian had the only goal to hurt the uruguayen player

Isn't it like the 3rd time he's done this?!
