Have been at my new job about a week now. So many differences in the crews and their ways of doing things. I've found the toughest so far to be just learning individual site routines, some days I think I'll never get it. The guys actually are amazing, they know their jobs really well and as long as I don't let them snowball me, and they HAVE tried already- they work with very little need for supervision. Mostly I have been kind of going along behind their tasks and doing some quality control.
But Friday, OMG. I have a crew who have to take care of the downtown city rubbish bins. I took them out to their site they got the rubbish and I took them to their dump site. One of them said (as he was separating the recycling in his bags) "um, there's a rat in this one" I said "don't touch it" assuming it was dead I went over to have a closer look and remove it to the proper area for dead animals and it was ALIVE and jumped towards me ...!! Oh lordie I screamed and did some kind of running jumping dance apparently, thats what the guys said cos I could only remember that rat's pointy face. The crew member tied the bag quickly, and went on ahead and threw it in the dumpster, fine with me!! Eventually I believe I stopped dancing around and was able to carry on, over the sounds of their laughter. But I won't forget, and now they know a weakness. hopefully it won't prove to be an issue in the future.
I get up really early now and quite tired when I get home, I really miss finding time for LPSG and I guess it will be a weekend activity most of the time.
So much happens in a week, this is the hardest forum to 'catch up' with- lots of reading!!
More next week, hopefully no rodent incidents!
