Some days it all just falls neatly into place.

So for those who know and have read the blog, the last few months has been no picnic. Oddly enough, the last 2 days has really changed things in a huge, wonderful way.

Last night, the stepson and I attended his first counseling session. I found out a lot about how he feels about me. He wrote this down on his questionnaire:

What do you think of your father/stepfather?

My stepdad is a really amazing man. He has always been around for us. When we were kids and my parents broke up, he made sure we all got what we needed. He would take us all out to dinner and to the park, the movies, he was just always there and always taking care of us. I hope I can be more like him.

I was dumbfounded as I thought this kid hated me. I was more shocked that he remembered all that from childhood. On the way home in the car he said, "I want to make you proud of me again. I know it's hard to believe, but you have really stuck up for me. I'm sorry if I let you down."

:eek::eek::eek:

That was yesterday. Today the wife calls me midday to tell me she got her dream job as Director of Nursing for a major retirement community. Again, I'm dumbfounded. However the best part of the day is that my little princess and my little man both made pictures for me and have spent most of the night tonight curled up with daddy reading and snuggling. My little guys are in bed now, but I just had to share a little bit of wonderful from my day.

Some days it just all goes right.

that's awesome, O. I grew up with more than one stepdad- and let me tell you, its tough... I ended up feeling like none really cared about me, and naturally, the subsequent 'abandonment' issues with men shaped who I am today. I am glad he was able to express his feelings, and that you were able to realize them. It is hard for a stepkid, we always fear loving too much will only end up with them leaving anyway, so often behavior expresses what we can't say.
congrats to Mrs O. some days just are made for smiling.:smile:

Kids are often in turmoil, it's hard but try to take it as a compliment that they feel safe enough with you to be horrible to you - then smack the cheeky little bugger upside the head :)

That is so cool! I knew your stepson was a good kid and you were partly the reason for that! :)

Kudo's to Mrs. O as well! :) I love it when a plan comes together.
