His family was not immensely wealthy (though they are certainly not poor), he is not the scion of a legacy political family, he was waaaay to young to have earned his stripes with the local County political parties. He is not a gifted, charismatic orator or clever demogogue. He won the way a man like him could to win a plum Congressional seat. He went door to door, walked in parades and smiled his pearly whites, gave a slutty wink and got the vote of women my guess probably 9-1 for him.
