As far as I understand they were joking. I have a Brazilian friend and we make all sorts of horrible comments about each others race as a joke. The worst the comment the better. So it's seems exactly like this case. Don't think there is any real racism in it. If anything those jokes only show how stupid racism is, and that's why it's funny.
