Women find bodybuilders unattractive

So I found this research summary, and thought the results were interesting as hell.

A couple things - slender men were rated higher as socially desirable than average guys.

Also, brawny and built guys were rated as significantly more volatile than the other men.

Do the ladies (and men I guess) here agree or disagree with how attractive the drawn men are, and the ratings in part two?

I've known a few guys who women fawned over. None was very built. The most muscular one was a surfer and had that light athletic beachgoer kind of build.

I don't think most men who go into body building do it because they think it will get them chicks though.

I don't think I'm attracted to a certain body type, it's more the whole package. But, I read the article and don't find myself relating to it. I had my heart broken by a body builder, but I don't look at all of them as potential heart breakers, nor do I drool over them ....more than other body types. It's amazing that the study says women think that muscular-brawny men are more violent. I find small men, who need to prove something, as more a worry to me, than a big man who knows his strength and is careful of it.

I guess I might be attracted to the more brawny man -- rugby players are a big hit for me! And of course Gerald Butler....sigh

Interesting link though

i prefer a more natural look.
toned & muscular is nice but pumped up leaves me cold.
i suppose, subconsciously, i like a body that looks like the guy isn't trying too hard but just lives an active life.
i prefer guys who carry a little extra weight too. something to soften them.

My best friend told me she doesn't like guys with muscular bodies because she gets the feeling they focus too much on themselves.

This was a long time ago when I was working out a lot and she told me not to "overdo it". Go fig.

Or you're just worried that your man is going to look better than you.
would you rather date a woman who spent her time looking at & being turned on by you, or looking at and being turned on by herself?

it's a unisex thing to look at the highly groomed (whether it be in inch of makeup and too perfect hair, or a body that looks like it takes ten gym hours a week) and think that person isn't your type because of it.

girls who are "athletic" and/or shallow dont mind super muscles at all (including me lol) and when I get a guy like that it only makes me want to improve on myself or keep up the good work. Its sort of a fun competition but then again if you cant keep up with a man like that...dont try to get serious with him but fuck his muscle brains out lol

I've never been into muscles, but I admire a man who is physically fit.

If I were to judge a guy solely upon his body and not take into consideration things like his personality and sense of humor and his character or heart, then I would say that I like toned or muscular guys but past a certain level, I no longer find it sexy any more. I'm not going to try to explain it, that's just how I physically respond.

In my opinion...

So wanting to be in shape automatically makes you narcissistic?

Bingo.

Smart, healthy and fit with a sense of humor beats dull, unhealthy, built or brawny and humorless any day of the week, for either gender. I'll also take nonathletic and deep over athletic and shallow. I like women with moxie no matter how their bodies are constructed.

Take care of yourself and take care of others, and don't take looks so seriously.

Hell, no. But those bodies do take a lot of time. I have two friends who are really into their bodies. I rarely hang out with them, even though I love them both to death. He's in the gym two hours a day. By the time he's ready to do anything, I'm dead tired and we can't go out. I love him, but he's a pain in the ass to be friends with - so we do the occasional lunch (if he's having a cheat day). With my other friend, she works out 2 hours before work every day and at least 3 hours/day on the weekend. She's easier to hang with, but she's exhausted by 9PM. Both are mid 20s and I'm 20 years older than they are, at their age I was rarely home by midnight! They don't stay out unless they plan it.

Both are gorgeous, and I wouldn't say narcissistic. Well, him maybe a little! But, I'd rather have someone who works out a little less and has a little more time for me.

i didn't say that though. not at all. you get unfit people who are narcissistic and supremely healthy people who aren't at all.

my post was in direct response to someone saying we might be worried our men look better than us, which seems like an odd accusation to me. now, taking that mindset, when it becomes a contest with the world, when a person's muscles or makeup or clothes are what they use as a crutch to create false confidence, when their own image interests them more than yours THEN you have a serious relationship issue.

people, consciously or subconsciously, may assume a degree of narcissism when viewing looking at someone whose appearance obviously takes considerable time and energy, beyond the 'norm'.

until that point, it's just personal taste.

...i don't think you saw my pics before i wiped them all.

I have always not been sexually attracted to the bodybuilder type. I haven't read the article but I've always gravitated toward more lean men.
