Because I've been here a decade, I have had the same conversations many times, encountered the same stupid myths ("I was fukkin' her cervix!!!11!!!1!") encountered derision for how much time I must have on my hands to have such a high post count (even though my average is 4 posts per day; ten years is a long time) and seen many quality members come and go. I also have cultivated some really nice friendships, and there are people here whom I cherish and respect.
The incentives for gold memberships are the ability to access full size, unpixelated gallery images without limitation, to edit and delete posts. I think there might be some chat room advantages too, but I rarely use the chat, and can't remember if that really ever was so, or still is. If you want a free membership, verify. If you don't want to verify, which is understandable, but you want gold membership, pay for it.
