I have a question if the swimmers wont mind answering for the lady...
i'm trying to talk my husband into swimming competitively, will he be required to shave his body hair to swim on a team? I love him being hairy!!! Don't break ma heart.

No, absolutely not. I've been swimming competitively since I was 8, on school teams, club teams, and now in masters competition. I was never required to shave, and don't personally know anyone who was. This isn't that huge of a sport, and I'm sure just about any team would be glad to have him. They're not going to make things harder by requiring things like that. There are also many alternatives now to the traditional Speedo brief, if he's not comfortable with that.

I swim Master's also, or at least I did until '08. I kept shaving the whole time because we wore Speedos for years and then I would tear hair out putting on and taking off the jammer.
I shave on Sundays in the shower because I have the time on Sundays not to have to hurry. Used shaving cream for years, but don't need it anymore.

That's good to know because he is just so hairy there is no way he's going to shave. I wouldn't like it anyway. But he wouldn't be comfortable in a speedo brief in public i dont think. The swim team wears a black speedo short that i've noticed. He's pretty well hung but also very shy, i dont think he'd want anyone noticing his package.
Would you say that being taller helps at all with swimming abilities? It seems like most swimmers i ever knew in highschool were very tall.
I agree with the an earlier post-I swam for ten years (stopped a couple years back) and only shaved down twice a year. Wouldn't recommend using nair, I had a buddy who tried it and claimed it was really unpleasant for the amount of leg hair men have. I always just used a regular razor and regularly applied shaving cream. It took a long time, but worked out best for me.
You really don't need to shave your whole body unless you're a high-level collegiate swimmer. I swam for 6 years, the last 2 being 10 times a week, but gave after being constantly demolished by one of my best friends who is now a prospect for London 2012. If you shave anything it should be your hands. I used jammers and just clipping my pubic hair was enough to keep it comfortable.

Used to be. Loved it. Speedos didn't really fit once I got big though I hated having to give it up.

Well my lap times started suffering, and it just got somewhat awkward/embarassing. I still love to swim though.

Shaving your pubic hair is a fashion quite unrelated to compeditive swimming. Most naturists I know of are shaved and none of them swim. There may be an issue with the small speedos worn today.
