It may be cynical but you're basically admitting it's true too. You agree he's "probably on the queer spectrum," yet he's got female romantic leads in all his music videos, playing the pronoun game in interviews, and getting paparazzi'd holding hands with Olivia Rodrigo.

How is this any different than Ricky Martin a generation before?

He's on a major record label chasing that teen girl coin. That's all it comes down to.

1. Guess what, not everyone “comes out” by the time that they’re 16. In fact, most don’t. It’s rather absurd to be trying to force anyone in their early 20s out of the closet. I don’t know why some of y’all think just because someone’s famous/a public figure it means that they should automatically be comfortable discussing their sexuality and identities publicly. There are folks in their 40s/50s who still aren’t comfortable with it. Nobody is on your timeline.

2. “Probably in the queer spectrum” doesn’t equate to “gay” or definitely having homo preferences. A lot of effeminate males like him are in the queer spectrum but aren’t at all homosexual and/or don’t have homo preferences. Yes, he may be in the spectrum. But no one can say the dimensions of anyone else’s sexuality, their experiences with questioning or fluidity or paraphiliacs or contradictions, their experiences with internalized phobias or queer resentments or gay insecurities or self-misandry, the extent of someone’s manipulation and sociological and ego driven imaging, where someone is in the gender, sexual, affection, romantic attachment, emotional investment, commitment spectrum.

3. We have no clue about his family background and his upbringing, his beliefs, his traumas, the state of his mental health. Y’all see a pretty white boy with some fame and assume their life has been perfect. You don’t really know his experiences, circumstances and struggles.

Could he be almost entirely driven by needing to use his prettiness to appeal to his mostly young female fan base? Possibly. We all know about branding and what people are willing to do for fame and clout and money and ego. But a lot of y’all see shit from such a basic, narrow perspective and refuse to see people as individuals.

Didn’t he grow up in deepest, darkest Texas? The same state that literally just criminalized transgenderness? I would play coy about my queerness, too, if I came from there.

People think because “it’s 2022” that homophobia, religious oppression/guilt, family and sociological pressures simply don’t exist anymore. Never mind that he’s still really young and may be trying to suss out his ego and insecurities and mental health or dealing with fluidity/questioning or trying to understand his place in the gender, sexual, affection, romantic, emotion, relationship, commitment spectrum. Like Shawn Mendes, he has said a couple of ignorant, insecure, vaguely homophobic things in the past. But he’s not out here promoting hateful stuff. And unlike a lot of white pretty boys, he’s not leeching off of “gays” and “queer appeal” while still exuding gay panic, internalized phobias, non-homo superiority. So, just let him live his life, whatever his dimensions and struggles and journey reflect.

Yes but the town he grew up in is safe for us queer folk lots of openly gay dudes in the high school most of the popular dudes were flaming

He has sexy thighs. New song is about a boy I believe. He is being more himself. I don’t think he is ready to do a video with another guy yet.
lyrics
[Bridge]
Since you came
I guess I'll let you stay
For as long as it takes
To grab your books and your coat
And that one good cologne
That you bought when we were fighting
'Cause it's still on my clothes, everything that I own
And it makes me feel like dying
I was barely just surviving

He's sexy, but I got bored with his music overtime. It's always the same topics...Memories was so blah :emoji_sleepy:
And the way he acts in public sounds so fake

How is he fake ? Never paid that much attention. I saw him in the street in Manhattan a while back

Idk.
He seems to try very hard to act like a goofy kind of guy, but ends up looking kinda cringy ? And the way he claims that he never kissed/been in a relationship with someone, but keeps writing those plaintive breakup songs ?

That's a personal opinion, and I've been a fan since his YouTube vlogging days for quite a long time, I witnessed the evolution of his image.

I haven’t paid close attention to him throughout the years. However, his persona does seem to have shifted, and he has very much leaned on this super quirky and super innocent vibe. But persona and being a bit phony is expected when it comes to people trying to attain fame and mainstream success. Also, coming at him for personality shifts between his teens and early 20s is kinda silly. While, once again, we don’t know his experiences, his mental health, his insecurities, whatever gender/sexual fluidity or contradictions or questioning he’s potentially been through, where he is in the gender, sexual, affection, romantic attachment, emotional investment, commitment spectrum. Someone doesn’t have to be a fan, but it seems some are going at him just because. One could perceive him as annoying or too cloying, but there’s not much there to genuinely hate on.

There was a blind item I read recently about him hooking up with Olivia Rodrigo not sure if it true they just seemed to be friends to me but hey you never know

You can be “friends” and still hook up. While it makes more sense for people to figure out whether someone is in a relationship with someone else. Unless you watch someone fvck you don’t have any idea who is messing around with who. But around 80% of those “blind items” are nonsense. They’re either a regurgitation of well-known rumors or they’re just made up to stir the pot or push whatever narratives.
