Can you name a straight actor who prominently played a gay role who quickly moved on to playing other great roles?

Getting examples for either is a little hard because there are so few gay male characters on TV to start with. But the stigma seems alive and well to me.

I mean, this is a more complicated issue than most of your are admitting here. Most of the actors mentioned here, especially the older ones, had well established careers before they played gay. There was also an annoying extended period, mostly in the 90’s through the 2000’s where playing gay was considered “brave” and “risky” and became something actors did to establish their credentials, because hey, if you can kiss another man with a serious face then you must be a good actor, right? Then some of the actors mentioned had big gaps in their careers between when they played gay roles and when they were able to reestablish their stardom.

Hmmm...seems like much younger stars like Charlie Hunan, Timothee Chalamet and Nicholas Hoult have all done "gay" roles in their early 20's and gone on to other major roles??!

And in today's world of global streamers where tons of great movies and series are now being made outside of just Hollywood, there's so many more great acting roles available, both straight and gay!

And reality check > relatively few actors have careers where there isn't slow gaps and lulls, both straight and gay, so it's hardly just career slowdowns specifically attributable to "playing gay"!

I really didn't like the way the writers treated Benji's character this last season. I felt that they nullified him. The interaction between him and Rahim was interesting though.

I actually think that S3 treated Benji the best. In S1 we saw him just through Victo's eyes as his love interest. In S2 we saw, how Victor idealised him and haven't seen, what's going on under Benji's surface. And in S3 Benji finally got his own screentime and we could actually see all his struggles he has been going through since his accident and coming out. Sure, I hate that Benji and Vic spent most of the time separately and would like to see more of their "together time", but I like Benji's development in this last season.

And in S3 Benji finally got his own screentime and we could actually see all his struggles he has been going through since his accident and coming out. Sure, I hate that Benji and Vic spent most of the time separately and would like to see more of their "together time", but I like Benji's development in this last season.

Same. He seemed so perfect in the first season, so it was interesting to see him as a 3 dimensional character. I just wish they could have just focused on Victor and Benji more.

I wish there would have been Salazar's family dinner with Benji. It sucks he actually never get to their home to meet with the whole family, eat a real dinner and enjoy a family time. The scene of Benji and Isabel from 2x10 was one of the bests from that season, but unfortunately there was it for them. And if I'm not mistaken, Benji actually never interacted with Armando nor Adrian and with Pilar only once in the first season, when she was asking him about the "B" girl. I think it would be a lovely scene if Salazar's officialy invite Benji to their home and treat him as their son's boyfriend. It could have been a really strong scene that would bring a nice result to the whole "not accepted by parents" plot.
