HOW VERY RACIST OF YOU TO SUGGEST THAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS GOING DOWN.
Oh. please. Anyone who remembers you and the antics that got you banned from this site knows that my remark had nothing to do with your race. Besides, in case you forgot, I'm a minority, too ... duh!

REMARKS LIKE THIS ARE NOT ONLY RACIST, BUT INFLAMMATORY AND PROVOKING.
Once again, they are not racist; if they are inflammatory and provoking, I guess I did it right! B) [/b][/quote]
dmv--here is a news flash: being a minority does not preclude you from being racist. duh!!! and yes you are a racist--though you need not be---considering your history. live and learn

you tell me someone can be a moron and play the Rachmaninoff 3rd !!!
I once saw an idiot savant so severely retarded that he couldn't dress himself or speak, yet he could listen to a musical piece once and play it back exactly as he heard it ... and retain the piece indefinitely. He played music by Borodin, Chopin, Britten, Dvorák, Mozart, Scott Joplin, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney. Now there's an eclectic mix! So yeah ... someone can be technically a moron and play Rachmaninoff's Third Concerto. Not all can, but there are savants out there with rare abilities that seem impossibly beyond their mental capacities.

Well, being a minority doesn't exclude you from being racist; I mean, look at OutKast. But "There goes the neighborhood" doesn't by itself constitute a racist remark.

This is starting to get annoying. The amount of trolls on here right now seems to be quite unusual.

Isn´t there some kind of insect spray we can use?
Well, only Mark has access to it. It's called Lart in a Can.

jonb ---either you are terribly ignorant or just playing with semantics---the phrase "there goes the neighborho"od has racist origins. there are phrases that "signify" and this is one of them. for you not to know that means you have had your head stuck in the sand for quite some time. we all know that there are catch phrases that signify racist remarks--well "there goes the neighborhood" is one of them. just admit it and stop being defensive about it. to deny that this phrase is racist and that dmw was not using it as such implies that you are terribly ignorant, or in denial.

The phrase means that someone or something undesirable has moved in, and that's all I meant by it: nothing more, nothing less. Did I mean that you are undesirable because you're black? Not at all. Did I mean that you're undesirable because you're you regardless of race? Bingo!

Some of you may not remember Humongous's previous incarnation on the site, so DoubleMeatWhopper's reaction to his return might seem unexpectedly rude. On the contrary, I commend DMW on his restraint.

I have been unable to find any documentation on the origin of the phrase "there goes the neighborhood", but I've found a significant amount of evidence that the phrase no longer "signifies" racist overtones.

A Google search for the exact phrase reveals over 66,000 hits, including such publications as the Christian Science Monitor, Washington Monthly, and Salon on the first page of results alone. Clearly the editorial boards of these magazines would have put the kibosh on the phrase if it were widely perceived as racist.

Some of the usages I found: it's the title of a book of environmental cartoons; it's also the title of an article dealing with Fred Rogers' retirement (get it? neighborhood? nyuk nyuk!); a Shania Twain song, a Sheryl Crow song, a Jeff Daniels movie, and a video game share the title.

Pecker was right, it's a personals ad and it should be in the personals section. Plain and simple.

It's very simple, if you 'seek' something, 'seek' it at personals.
Absolutely, positively correctamundo. This is a seeking post and belongs with other seeking threads in personals. He's not seeking answers or advice, he's seeking other people. Case closed. As far as the anger stuff or cordiality on whomever's end, well, I give everyone three strikes. Consider this an 0-1 count.

Hey...didnt you pick up on the request to not put your posts in font size 83? And since you posted 4 consecutive posts it seems like your the only one around here.
Start posting in the normal fontsize and people will start taking you a bit more serious already.
I counted 6 consecutive posts.

No, more like I'm desensitized. You see, I'm American Indian, and I grew up in South Dakota. Now, life in South Dakota if you're an Indian is no picnic. Or if you believe everything in your inbox, it is a picnic. These linguistic hoaxes are nothing new, and honestly it's just masturbation; ultimately one could argue that nigger's not racist because it's Latin for black.

Why? Because you claim "There goes the neighborhood" is racist when I've never heard it in terms of "white flight" before. Simply put, South Dakota's like the Jim Crow South, but blacks aren't the target. Indians are. tatankicita

lol lol lol no longer signifies racist overtones? while you may have found evidence to support that---it does not mean that dmw did not intend the phrase as a racist remark. he could not have been referring to my character because he does not (personally) know me. the comment was racist. yes indeed it was and i am so glad that you found literature to support that the phrase does have racist overtones. you might want to let dmw know that even minorities can be racist. he thinks otherwise (duh) perhaps you can find literature to support that too
