Hidden cameras

Ah, that one was silly, but not necessarily the thrill of a true crime drama.

This one's really good as True Crime goes: https://www.netflix.com/title/80176878

I listened to a podcast that was about (I think) the same case. It was fascinating and surprisingly not that creepy once the voyeur's actions and motivations were demystified. Not that it justified or made it okay, but it definitely told the other side of the story and, at least in the case I learned about, made it seem basically harmless.

Yeah, one of the funniest things about it was how mundane it all was. Guy's out peeping on every guest while they're at his hotel in their most intimate moments and it has all the excitement of him doing maintenance to the sprinkler system or something.

You should watch some prison interviews with rapists and serial killers. They might as well be telling you how to make a sandwich. I do have two favorites. Maybe I should start another thread one of these days. Some get weirded out by it though.

Nah, do it, I love true crime :)

Who's paintergal?

@AlteredEgo I wish I saw this earlier! Thank you. I couldn't care less about being recorded all over the place by big brother. My issues are with secret cameras to film in locker rooms, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Something something NASA.
I either clicked the wrong tag, or my autocorrect kicked in because I tagged her before.

Oh no, that’s what the other guy was calling me. I don’t consider what he said a coherent sentence let alone an apology.

Oddly enough, I am a painter lol.

He's a good egg. I really quite like him. But his off days are way off. I think of him as a friend, so I didn't mind telling him. I really do wish he'd have apologized to you.

No, no, you just don't understand. He's a non-conformist. You just don't get it because you're a conformist. Maybe you didn't detect that through the liberal slathering of patronizing tone artlessly mixed with secret society conspiracy theories.
I know one thing for sure.........AE is no conformist.

On another note, how many threads here go the way of diversion. How many end up the topic of what dessert is best, what jello wobbles more, what chocolate, milk, dark or mixed with hazelnut...?

Conspiracy theories?? Do you actually think like a Mule as well..........Stubborn, unmoveable, not open to any discussion other than what is placed directly in front of you. Ok.

Next time you visit a store, a car park, anywhere, drive anywhere. Tell me you are not being watched.

The licence plate of your car is recorded. If you as the occupant or driver do not match up with the video being taken by a passing police car in the opposite direction, you will be most likely pulled over and asked for identification. Such is the technology now.

Please educate yourself.

My apologies here...Well, I must be thinking when you thought up your username you mixed and matched colour :)

I did............and you are correct. I be a good egg :) A little speckly...

Exactly.

It would appear you missed the point.

Oh I'm well aware of the technology, trust me - it's a significant part of what I've been studying and publishing on for the past 12 years. My issue was with your implication that it's all the result of a secret cabal's machinations. The current state of surveillance and big data is perfectly explicable without the invention of conspiracy theories and Illuminati.

Years ago I accompanied someone to court, and we were sat in the waiting area near a man who was very well dressed (well he was in court), and seemed intelligent and likeable. Then his solicitor came over to talk to him, and reeled off all of the charges against him. It seemed like quite a few hidden cameras involving various women. It was very good of that solicitor to let me and everyone else know! The man seemed embarrassed and angry at the lack of discretion, he most certainly didn't like his privacy and trust being violated. I don't think he was remorseful about the hidden cameras in any way, as he'd seemed to be in a fairly good mood prior to that. As far as I could make out the cameras seemed to have been in public toilets, changing rooms, and peoples homes.

I can't say I'm too worried about cameras out and about. I'm more concerned with private acts like dressing rooms, locker rooms, sexual encounters.
Yes. This concerns me a lot.... especially that the devices seems to be designed to assist in deceit. When people feel that they are in a private place, it needs to be a private place and penalties for invading that privacy need to be severe enough to deter the creeps. Out in public, that's a completely different story.

Sometimes deceit is warranted. I had two cams in my grandmother's bedroom. One was obvious, and had obvious blind spots. I always pointed it out to anyone left alone with her. The other was in her ceiling fan, and looked like a bulb. It worked as a bulb, too. Best believe I watched surveillance. If she was in the blind spot of the main cam, I called. The hidden one had no significant blind spots in the room. No one harmed her, but if they had, I would have known. Sure, it means my grandmother was never not being recorded in her own bedroom, but that meant I could buy groceries, attend a wedding, get a massage, take a nap, and not worry that anything that happened to her behind my back was a mystery. I actually found that lightbulb camera because my ex said his sister's boyfriend was stealing from their house, and they were thinking of ways to catch him. There are uses that are not nefarious. But those darker purposes? Who knows which consumers have them?

I saw a youtube video a couple of weeks ago talking about hidden cameras in public bathrooms and changing rooms using the same hook that @pain4anangel posted in page1. Since then i always look around and check for everything suspicious before getting naked in those places.
