Thanks to this thread I got off my butt today and went and got the pap smear I was due for. See, the internet IS good for our health .

And what did the doctor and I talk about while she did it? Buffy and Harry Potter.

LMAO, I went a few weeks ago. Freaking biggest relief to have that done for another year. Got all my results. All good. I just have to take him my monitored bp... sigh stupid anxiety!!!!!!!!!!! But I totally forgot to ask about the HPV vaccination. So when I go to take him my spreadsheet I'm asking for it. Might as well protect myself against everything I can. I never know when something might rip or tear and exposure may happen!

It feels good having it over and done with, doesn't it?

Here you can get the HPV for free if you're 26 or under. Unfortunately, I was over 26 when they brought it in. No freebie for me. Grrr. And it costs too much for me to pay for it myself. Well, I could afford it if I made a whole lot of sacrifices. Maybe I should. The really annoying thing is, my sister is young enough to get the freebie but won't do it. Why can't I have hers? More grrrs.

To my knowledge nothing is free except sunshine and air(kidding)... FOR NOW... so if my insurance will not pay for it I will as long as it's reasonable. I'm to old as well.... like old people don't want to be protected:mad:

I really don't consider myself old I guess we are considered out of the risk taking age. Sad thing is I know plenty of older people that are bed hopping and rarely use protection.. all I can think is "oh helllll NO..."

When it's with a woman doctor, I get that warm/tingly mothering/nurturing feeling going. With men, I feel rather tense, sometimes embarrassed. In either circumstance, I don't feel turned on.

I hate the yearly scrape. It always feels like they took the time to find the sharpest speculum and the wire grill brush to do it.

I always leave bleeding, crying, and glad I don't have to do that shit again this year.

As for preferring either women or men.. I prefer men to do it. Women seem to treat me like I should be able to handle being roughed up down there, whereas men don't have the parts already, so they're usually more gentle.

Dolf! I'm horrified! And you're the one that started this thread!

Although as we're doing confessions, I've never been tested for STDs except Chlamydia. Even that I only did because they were running a competition at uni where you could win a laptop if you had the test done (yes, really!). But this thread, plus all the people who talk about testing, have encouraged me to get it done. So I got an extra smear taken when I did my pap smear, and I'll get all the ones that are diagnosed using blood done next time I have a blood test (I have bad veins - she didn't want to try opening me up 'unnecessarily'). Again, shows the internet is good for your health - and that of others.

The best way to catch anything is EARLY, you should get tested. I will always be tested every year for everything. Heck, if I ever get married I am still getting tested. Way to many people end up with STD's because someone cheats.

I know, I know. I suppose I never really thought it was necessary because I always used condoms. But you can get an STD even using a condom, plus they break way too often for my liking.

It's a bit silly really getting tested at this point. Most of my sexual activity with the many partners was years ago, and I'd probably have seen symptoms by now. In fact my doctor thought I was a bit mad getting tested now when I'm not very sexually active. But it still needs to be done, and I will do it regularly from now on.

Nope many things show no outward symptoms. You can end up with scarring in your tubes and infertile. You should always always always get tested. I'm not a condom truster. I like to know my partners very well which is why the FB thing has never really popped into my mind until it was talked about repeatedly on this site. As I said even when I get married or settle forever etc I'm still getting tested. Nothing wrong with being safe rather than sorry.

I know. Can't really say anything else, hey? At least I'm being a good girl now and getting tested.

In the past, I have avoided gyns like poison and my legs shook like jelly in the stirrups, but as I've gotten older, I've relaxed a little.

It helps if you remember that YOU are paying them, YOU are in charge and they have to do what YOU tell them to!

I put it off for as long as possible. My female GP prefers to do them every 12 months with a thin prep test also.

The last 2 times I have gone, she couldn't find my cervix for about 5 mins >_<
She ended up having to lube up and use her fingers to locate it and then when it was all done and I was dressed, she realised she forgot to do the thin prep, so I had to strip off again :/

Same thing the following year.

Turns out I have a tilted pelvis.

The very first time she did this, I walked out a little violated, it was all a bit too intimate with my female doctor for me. Speculum = Sure, Fingers = Errr do you have to?
I also prefer to not make conversation during. I just want to get in, over with and out of there. Just focus and then I don't have to do round 2, 15 mins later when I am dressed!

Poor thing! It's bad enough as it is without having a cervix that hides (I didn't even know they could do that).

I have no idea, the first time I had one done I was mortified. I was young and worried and then fingers!! WTF aggghhhh!!

I have a "deep, tilted cervix". Yay, go me and my buried cervix. I feel like an Indiana Jones movie, 'The mission to find the crystal skull' the way she pokes around and makes me shift and pillows here and there. You'd think she'd found that golden chalice in there or something. It's such an ordeal and takes ages.

When a guy with a big package says I don't won't to hurt you, I'm like.... "Dude, you can pound your way to China, you won't hit a thing". The only bonus!
