I've started using the ignore button on threads concerned with the "Hillary/Obabam/If we all don't keep our lawns mowed the same length 'Mericuh's democracy will fall" threads. They're just repetitive crap with little to commend them. But the few times I've used the ignore button on a couple of major irritating rant-and-rave yahoo posters I've recently unchecked the buttons. I don't know. Maybe they were suffering from lack of quality daily sunlight or they started taking their meds again, but now I find them entertaining. Still, I would NEVER want to encounter them in public. Life is just too damn short.

you can use the ignore button on a thread?? i didn't know this, i don't pay attention to the political ones either. to me, the us political system is a faulty and failed one based on rules made by rich white men who believed women and "negroes" were inferior. that kind of language was used in the original format but has since been discarded

I am on someone's ignore list.

*You know who you are, if you are out there...*

Possibly two people, but definately one.

Apparantly:
(something along the lines of...)

Expect to be blocked.

Seriously where did they find you?

You are a psyco

^All of those things were said about me by the same person (not at the same time)

I don't really see how I have offended anyone in this place, but it seems that I have.

Words from my mouth.
I too had a few people on 'ignore' at various times, but it screws up your reading of threads to not be able to get the full sequence of posts ... so I took them off.
And you can indeed find them amusing.
I find it almost as easy and more mature to just control my own reactions.
If I don't much like a poster, I can just scan a post ... and if it has that signature irksomeness, just move on down the thread to something more interesting.

dumbcow some people have paper-thin feelings that are broken so easily its almost sad. the only people i block are ones who employ name-calling and personal insults (no matter how cleverly disguised as a harvard-grad essay)

 Thanks, marley... I just let him insult me without arguing back - which is probably best in those situations.

Don't argue back, your wise smartcow, just use the report post button.

I have a list of people who wouldn't stop private messaging me and two others off the site. I put them on ignore because I didn't have the self control to not attack them every time they spoke or said something stupid. I lack retard response control.

i've been criticized on this site (and probably always will be) but i'm seeing a pattern of what seems like the same people launching attacks any and everywhere they feel connected to some higher power and worthy to pass judgment and make personal attacks on other members. since the MODS seem to allow certain disrespectful practices to continue, i've found it useful to simply block people who make personal remarks about me (criticizing a post is one thing, calling someone a troll or douchebag is another). anyway i'm curious how many members have had no problems with receiving negative comments and how many find themselves hitting the ignore button fairly often so i just wanna know how many people are utilizing that precious, precious ignore button

Marley,

it is quite interesting that the individuals who send the mod board the most reports are also those who others report . We usually try to let you all work it out since that is what the board has told us time and again they wanted. One of the problems however is that members often are blind to their own behavior (Many times it has been a provoking agent) when reporting someone who has heard their call and come out with both guns blazing. SO we have the ignore function in place.

I have a word of advice for you. I mean this in all kindness, when you refer to "White people" as a group on the board in a negative fashion dont be surprised if you get back as much as you give. I am in NO WAY excusing borish or racist behavior in other members but the less we do on an individual basis to fuel issues the better off we will be. We can all be fed up at times , I know I have had my moments, but by in large we usually dont regret not saying something nasty.

As for myself, I dont have anyone on ignore. Even when things get the hottest here I just figure eventually it will sort itself out. I always have to option not to respond or even enter a thread that I feel might send my blood pressure rising. Most of the time when I speak my piece it is as a flawed member of the board not as a MODERATOR.

Oh, and the reason people keep calling you MEM is because we have another very high spiritied member who began his tenure here creating numerous provocative threads that caused a bit of a ruckus. So they cant help but pick up on the similarity.

Honestly, I've never had a personal problem with anyone that became ignore-worthy and in the case of people whose rants were offensive or appalling enough to consider it, they were too interesting or amusing to use it.

Yeeeep. Exactly. Marley's little race rant could have offended the hell out of me. Mostly because I'm white yet I hate Starbucks . But all in all it was just too funny to see someone caught in the web of his own hypocrisy and trying to defend it as a deliberate attempt to get a rise out of people (i.e...trolling) to ignore or get mad about. Most subsequent threads has been the sort of melodramatic "OMG! Why am I getting antagonized?!" stuff my sense of humor eats up and thrives upon.

So thank you Marley. You truly are a legend.

hopefully you're not ignoring the fact that i'm not always so melodramatic (though i won't deny its in my character at times). i think whats garnered so much animosity towards me is putting my foot in my mouth in that first thread (though other people who did the same and worse seem to fall under no scrutiny) but i'll be the first to admit when i'm wrong and have certainly apologized for saying some of the things i said in there. my sense of humor is always tickled by people who walk with their head so high they can't smell that their shit stinks like everybody else so qua, I must thank YOU.

other things that tickly my fancy

members who post things about child pornography or taking advantage of straight men in their sleep are simply allowed to romp around as if this kind of behavior is okay, they certainly don't seem to catch much slack for that

touche. i guess what aggrevates me is the way people take one thread or two threads i started and summate that as my character. if anything i'm guilty of being a human amonst apparently perfect super-beings that never do, say, or think anything wrong. i try to take it all in with a grain of salt though, i thought i was handling it fairly til i started getting PMS calling me a whorish cunt and whatnot
