[20 mins north of IAH; Houston]

When I have a long layover, I jump in a uber
& head here to use the dry sauna, large hot tub
and showers.

This location & the downtown Dallas Y are my 2 favorite TX locations
(‘which are both ALWAYS busy with guys of all ages).

Has anyone been to the downtown Nashville Y recently? I’m about to be in town for a while and would like to know before I go out there. Or any other options for cruising and/or open shower set ups in the area?

It’s being remodeled. They’re taking away the steam and sauna and making them co-ed.

Same thing at almost all Y’s in Nashville. The last one is really Maryland Farms and they’re tearing it down in a month.

Absolutely was not! I ended up going the the Y in downtown Asheville and what a disappointment it turned out the be. The showers were stalled with curtains. So, I'm sitting in the dry sauna with a towel wrapped around me talking with 3 other guys about beard oils. Totally not exposed and no inappropriate behavior was happening either. A male member of management walks in and calls me and one other guy out b/c we just have towels around us stating we were in violation of the dress code policy and we either put on some trunks/underwear or leave the facility. He then walks in the steam sauna and pulls two more guys out for the same thing. Apparently, at this Y, they do not allow guys to wear towels around them. Must have on either trunks or underwear. (To me underwear is much more reveling than a towel - but what do I know). Lord forbid that I had went in to the saunas naked. I would have ended up in jail. When I left, I did stop at the front desk and ask to speak to this member of management. I explained I was from out of town visiting and traveled a good bit and never at any other Y had encountered this rule. He rudely stated it was YMCA policy across the board and other facilities should be enforcing the rules. Word of advise, avoid this Y.

Wow, what a tool! I’d report his as* to the district or area Y leadership office. Tell them that this manager harassed you while you did nothing wrong. Ask them to clarify the rules of steam/sauna use.

And tell them whether they repeat such a stupid rule or not, that it’s completely unhygienic. Sitting in a warm space like that sweating in shorts or underwear causes skin irritations and fungal crap like jock itch. And esp with guys in underwear, if anyone is wearing dirty underwear that it can spread E.coli and flesh eating MRSA, among other germs that can make people very sick. That this is a health risk that needs to be reported to the city/county health department. Let’s be real, many guys don’t bring multiple pairs of underwear to the gym or are lazy and would go in with sweaty, dirty underwear. And that unless some staff is following each guy as he exits the steam or sauna sanitizing those surfaces with bleach, that this is a health risk.

I know this may sound like a lot, but come on guys, it’s time we all stand up and call this sh*t out!! It’s freaking disgusting and a health risk. It of course makes bonding/being nude impossible, but time to use the actual hygienic facts to reverse these trends. Many guys don’t follow the established decades old rule of showering before entering the steam and sauna with a clean towel already, so now men are in there with sweaty shorts or possible dirty underwear?! Time to reverse all this foolishness.

Whats most shocking about this, is that this was in North Carolina of all places; possibly the state w/the most communal showers (practically all the Y's on the western half of the state from charlotte to winston salem).

Seems like the states is becoming more puritanical honestly....and I know for anyone reading this they must be thinking how we could become MORE puritanical than we already are but alas, here we are.

THIS PLACE IS EPIC & SURREAL

Totally worth a trip/vacation to Flagstaff but if you do visit, behave yourself; its not a bathhouse tho it resembles one and any possible "tension" is mostly about exhibitionistm, cockiness, everyone looking confident & comfortable while naked, pumped and maybe fluffed.
