People dont commit because they think there's something better out there instead of focusing on the person right in front of them and the apps make it 10x worse because if a person you're talking/seeing does one little thing you dislike you can immediately go back to swiping to find someone new. It makes you think you have endless options so people start treating each other like we're disposable.

The other big issue is guys on the apps are unrealistic with all these expectations and laundry list of what they want. They have very limited preferances and tastes. No winder they are mostly single. Back in the day, there was more option to see if there was interest outside a screen and people were not so easily discarded.
Like take Mark’s preference for young guys. It doesnt stop there, Im sure he wants some just like him, may artsy, into tattoos, likes low key chill lifestyle. Maybe doesn’t drink. The pool that fit what he wants is very narrow. While if most gays were open minded, maybe they could find the love of their lives in guys they would not pursue.

there's always been plenty of fish in the sea. even before the apps, when gays were meeting in dingy bathrooms through a gloryhole. the apps are somewhat at fault for making it easier, but the fault lies on the people. it's not the app telling you "hey, that guy you're dating is kinda meh, try this guy who is exactly the same as him but might be better", it's people with grass is always greener on the other side/fomo constantly jumping from one person to the other

I figure some might find that banal or boring, but I think that can be quite nice. A more domestic life with one’s partner, that is, whether or not it fits a preexisting archetype.
