Looking through moderator actions I notice quite a few people get banned for impersonating the opposite gender. And it's almost always a man pretending to be a woman.

Now I really can't understand the point of this--maybe there isn't one and they just do it for the hell of it--but I do wonder how this makes the bona fide women of this site feel? Do you just feel sorry for someone that would do that? Or do you feel violated in some way?

This is a truly strange phenomenon no matter what the reasons behind it are. What clues does one look for when they are trying to determine someones validity as a real woman? I've seen some people make accusations of this when a new woman shows up that is particularly caustic in her attitudes towards average and smaller sized men.

not almost, always!

well, to all of my knowledge anyway, i havent been a moderator here long only since the summer.

I've seen some people make accusations of this when a new woman shows up that is particularly caustic in her attitudes towards average and smaller sized men.

maybe, it's not just a size thing though, it's the language the laydees -- as they are so called -- use. talking about sex in a certain way. using certain usernames.

i dont really get all het up about it, it does not ANGER me per se the way i would be angry if i saw someone kick a puppy. i care about the site though, and keeping deception of the membership at a minimum so in that regard i do my best to keep it in check.

I have not been around too long, I don't believe half the things I see on the internet, especially when people can hide behind a avatar and can make up anything they want.

I guess I just don't understand this pretending thing, but it doesn't upset me. It is kind of sad when you think about it. I don't know if I've ever responded to anyone who's pretended to be a woman, but I guess I'm not suspicious like that. It's not like I would share anything more with a woman than a man on this board.

Fleur, I like that story, but those questions are hilarious! I'll have to remember to ask someone about their ring size (mine's 7, by the way! LOL! Cap, listen up!).

No, I don't feel angry, just a little puzzled that they would want to decieve that way.

I wouldn't want to try to pass myself off as a man, I like being a girl! Hormonal surges and all! Lol! If a guy wants to try to take that role on...more power to him, but I'm not the one he's trying to attract and get off on...You straight males are. You may be making it too easy on them by falling for their stolen pics and not having enough of a conversation with them to realise the deception.

I don't understand why they do it, but it doesn't bother me much. It does bother me that because it happens so often, people have become overly suspicious (including me) and real women are sometimes suspected to be fake.

I think it's less that people look for signs of realness, and more that certain attitudes and behaviours set off fakeness alarms.

 I might be a man in disguise - I could only answer two of those questions!

Do you have any theories on why they do it? That's what puzzles me.

best guess, a good portion are gay men who have a strong fetish for straight guys and they like pretending to be women in order to catch the interest of aforementioned straight dudes.

a blast from the past quote from my loverly ML, regarding the issue of laydees (permalink here):

the faux-ladies bother me something fiercely. if one of the hollow brained asstards ever once adopted a female persona i had one ounce of respect for i wouldn't be so angry. but the fakers are always addled-brained, cock-addicted, pneumatic fuck dolls with a dialog chip of porn scripted one liners and an endless supply of LOLs. some of the advanced fakers manage to mix a lifetime movie back story with comso-cover line interests.

the end result is a disgraceful regurgitation of female stereotypes and cliches.

how eager some of the men are to meet, greet and grovel at the feet of these fakers is very depressing. this knee jerk reaction/devotion/pursuit of such a flawed and one dimensional ideal of women is starting to break my heart. and costing me respect for the average heterosexual man.

eta: not all fakers are men pretending to be women. some are women who adopt the porn starlet persona for attention. i hate you even more, cuz you should know better

i might get the idea that women on LPSG are interchangeable and indistinguishable fuck slots, who serve as some heterosexuality buffers or wank fodder. *during my first weeks here Ms SP busted a faker.. the reply from men viewing the faker's gallery "we don't care, we just like the pictures"* i sorta take comments like that as devaluing to the female members, heck females in general.

it does break my heart a little

I've actually humoured a few who I knew were dudes masquerading as ladies. It was a bit of fun at first to throw out the line and watch them gobble it up, but eventually (i.e., fairly soon) the whole thing starts to seem a bit pathetic.

Once one gets the hang of it, it's pretty simple to spot the fakers.

Lol at "laydees". :biggrin1:

In addition to wanting to see someone on cam, have them send private pics and such, there do seem to be a few SPH guys who pretend to be women. I've had one or two ask me whether I agree 'that small-dicked guys are useless' and such. Some seem to straddle the SPH/big-dick fantasist line, just wanting to put themselves in someone else's shoes, find out what life is like for those where they see the grass as being greener. Just my experience with them anyway.

One of the problems, I feel, is that you see a certain number of fakers and then you start to become cynical about the rest. A couple of times I've looked at a profile and thought "yeah, blatant fake there", only for them to put up a (practically) irrefutable verification pic. I'd love it if there were no fakers so we didn't need the cynicism, but that's simply never going to happen.

That said, I do like the fact that on LPSG you're rewarded for posting a verification pic, it does discourage the fakers. Compare this to NewbieNudes, where barely anyone is verified, and most of the 'women' there seem to be guys wanting other guys to talk dirty about the pictures of their girlfriends and wives, give 'tributes' and such. I had one 'girl' from 'a couple' on there PM three times, whose gallery started off with him posting pics of himself, then a few of his "ex-girlfriend" then a few days later pics of the same girl were no longer labelled as such, they were "me", the implication being that it was a shared account and the girl was asking me whether I was bigger than 'her boyfriend'. I told him (in so many words) I didn't want to waste my time talking to someone like that. Sad thing is he probably jerked off to that message.

Incidentally, what's the best way to report these? I had one PM me here twice requesting we swap pics, but that's not going to happen when her posts have been followed by guys pointing out 'her' pics are available elsewhere.

I don't know about the female members but the Laydees piss me off, only because they generate reports and doings for Modz, and anything that requires me to do anything is annoying.:tongue:

Interesting. I don't even know my own ring size.

I think this is why the more veteran guys here only exchange pleasantries with new female members.

I think it's less that people look for signs of realness, and more that certain attitudes and behaviours set off fakeness alarms.

Care to elaborate?

I think the bit there about how the faux-ladies seem like porn caricatures is interesting. I think to a certain extent such a woman does satisfy a male fantasy....perhaps that's obvious since porn is so popular. And, in the absence of such women in real life, they create these persona's on the web.

Do you find the fact that this seems to be a recurring male fantasy sad?

In addition to looking for SPH material do they also pretend to be size queens?

I think nature has hardwired this "ideal" woman into the male brains. The libido can cloud personal judgment and morality.

I have a friend whose husband used to go in the W4W AOL Chat rooms back in the day and claim to be lesbian...She didn't seem to bothered ..."It keeps him happy..."

Well ok...

About the same time I had a lesbian friend, and I mentioned to her about this "situation". She said it was fairly common, and the women could see through it in a few minutes. The conversations all ran the same way: were all very artificial, and quickly turned into a quiz about breast size, firmness, nipple type ect.

She said that when lesbians discuss this, it's always after lengthy conversion, not in the beginning.

As for gender faking on this site, somebody's probably got a "Str8 man" fetish, and this is an easy way to meet their needs.

Hm. It makes you wonder if things are a byproduct evolution or of culture.

In nature, depending on the species, females evolved to select a mate based on his positive traits to ensure the offspring would inherit them. This is all instinctive of course. Males on the other hand are attracted to a female who will bare many children.

I can't say that this is the case for humans but this is all theory of course.
