Per usual, I agree with Rubi. And while I respect Michael's intense dedication and talent immensely, and he comes across as a genuinely sweet and amazingly unaffected guy, I have to say I've always thought he has a face that would stop a clock. Sorry about that.

You do know as an Olympics athlete in the US all you get is endorsements. The US does not pay its gold winners a certain dollar amount like other countries do. And from what I understand he had to cover his own room and board while in China. And Phelps isn't the kind of person that lets people like you stop him from being great. That is not the way he was raised. And if tiny children in China can be atheletes then Phelps has all the right to be one too. At least he don't hide behind a curtain and sing a song someone else is pretending to sing simply because he does not meet some kind of ideal of acceptable looks. I don't see you winning any modeling contracts, heh!

In some pics, he's less than handsome to say the least, but in others, he's pretty good-looking. He suits longer hair better and those pics of him with the goatee showed that's definitely a good look for him. Yeah, he doesn't have Holllywood-perfect looks, but I think that's a plus-point. Who wants to look like every plastic doll in films and on TV? Vive la différence! In some ways that's maybe helped him in his athletic achievements.

He's an amazing athlete and I'm surprised to see people knocking him. Well, I'm not actually. That's how jealousy and self-loathing often manifest themselves so it's really no surprise when beautiful (or not) underachievers try to put other people down for actually doing something with their lives. He's a guy who's worked hard for what he's achieved and deserves all his medals. Who cares if he makes money from endorsements? How else is he expected to fund his training? On top of that, a sportsman's career isn't very long and he's got to plan for his future. His eight most recent medals won't pay for his retirement, but investments and money from endorsements will set him up for life.

haha. i don't care how he looks or whatever. i just think he is annoying. ill say he is a good athlete, everyone knows he can swim. but its like he wins everything and that is good. it just makes watching the Olympics insanely boring. but anyways looking at celebrities flaws is always fun. he must have known that people would make fun of the way he looks, if he was going to be anywhere in the media. thats what the media is for. i guess I'm glad that he won all of those medals for America, but i still think its sad hes so good that other countries are pretty much bound to loose. if you really want to know i had a modeling contract.
