seriously i dont hate phelps because hes not a perfect looking person. its because with him there its pretty much obvious who is gunna get gold. National hero my ass. if you think he is competing to win for his country then you are an idiot. as long as he wins he will get money from endorsement deals. but why should i even watch the Olympics if i know that phelps is going to win? next thing you know hes going to even win female gymnastics events ... cuse he phelps.

I congrat him on winning all that gold and passing mark spitz but in the looks department mark spitz has him beat by a mile....and he was hairy and more attractive at that age even way back when...and I dont get why they dont stick to speedos and now wearing full leotards for swimwear...yes I know it is to cutdown drag....and such

Don't mind how he looks, okey, I know that he looks like one of the Daltons from Lucky Luke, but that is it. He made a great performance and he is a very good swimmer, isn't that the most important thing of it all.
I am really shocked by all the nasty and rude comments so many people have posted about Phelps. Some of the comments on this thread sound like the school bus bullies that used to harrass Phelps as a child. Ugly? Fugly? Fangs? Baghead? It all sounds like the rants of pouty children. What the hell is your problem??!!
Phelps didn't throw himself into the media or step on the pedestal to be a sex symbol or anyone's personal fantasy. He is first and foremost an athlete-- not a porn star! If he doesn't make your toes curl, then so what?! Go and gawk at a model whose only claim to fame is perfect hair, face and teeth.
A major part of Phelps' charm and appeal is that he is just a regular guy who is blessed with superior talents. What is there to criticize? Yet of course, plenty of LPSG posters will find enough insignificant faults and try to bury the "Phelps Lead Story".
IMO, Phelps has acheived a Herculean task and, in the process, represented USA with a great deal of poise and humility. And at a time when we all have an opportunity to celebrate a victorious and history-making event of a fellow American, it is so disconcerting to witness the height of superficiality. (Eight gold medals!! So, who the hell cares about a speech lisp?!) When and why should one's natural appearance or flaws ever trump their heroic achievements?
To the Phelps beauty critics: Stop wading in the shallow end of the pool!!

He is a phenomenal athlete and his achievement is astounding, what ever else you think of him and his motivation, that needs to be recognized.

The suites smush everything flat; the female swimmers all looked like anorexic gymnasts. The suites also caused many of the swimmers, male and female, to look like they had back fat. Speedo redesigned the suite to be wider at the shoulders and the either got rid of diminished the translucent sections. Some of the swimmers have commented on how difficult they are to put on and how they tore some while putting them on. Dara Torres got her individual competition delayed because one of her competitor's suite was ripping at the starting block.

Someone does not approach you and say hey if you win a gold medal I'll let you endorse our product. Years and years and years of practice come before you win a gold medal.
Did anyone happen to see what this guy eats for breakfast, he consumes like 10,000 calories a day

To become such an incredibly accomplished Olympic swimmer like Michael Phelps you need an Olympic sized appetite.
Phelps takes in ten to twelve thousand calories a day!!
But could you compete with Michael Phelps when it comes to pancakes and eggs!

Hey you all, Michael is a HERO, the first Olympian ever to win 8 gold medals in one Olympics. Can't us gays put aside catty remarks about the man's looks and just be proud of the way he represented our country and himself. I saw Mark Spitz race in his Olympics , yeah he was hot but Michael is the greatest swimmer of all times. Let's be proud of what he has accomplished and his love for his family and his country.
HA! I like the CEO comment! But back to Michael, he has deals with AT&T, Speedo, VISA, OMEGA, Rosetta Stone and he wants one more with a fast food chain. In fact, his mom also has an endorsement deal. All of this makes no mention of all the cereal boxes that will now use his pix and pay for it nor any future deals and don't kid yourself, there will be tons of them as everyone will want a piece. It would not surprise me if the Enquirer (or some such other scandal rag) gets pix of his long lost Daddy on his doorstep looking for a handout. Sad, but quite possible, nevertheless.
there's a lot that goes into making the decision to become a world class athlete. love of the sport, possible earnings from endorsements, want of celebrity, inspiration from others, seeking validation, and doing something that you're good at. the list is endless and that is why there are so many therapists. i personally don't care what he chose as his reason to follow this path. he has more integrity and humility, imho, than someone who goes on a foreign talk show because he claims to have the biggest dick in the world and spends the greater part of 30 minutes babbling and shoving his hands down his pants in an obvious display to show everyone how difficult, challenging and dramatic it is to live with a big dick, all the while asking. "You want to see it, don't you?" (that might be paraphrased).
