Olympics!!!

Oh for crying out loud. Cmon people. It was probably the most boring opening ceremony.
I admit it had some good elements, like the Mr. Bean comedy part. But in general it was dull and it lacked of coherence.
Specially the music part with the cell phones and all..... Complete lack of aesthetics.
Boring...??
Just because you were obviously too stupid to reference 90% of the the meaning??
The entire thing was spcetacular and well done Danny Boyle,so glad you didn't pander to the 'stick five tons of fireworks and light the fuse brigade'

I loved the whole thing. Well worth the effort of getting up at 5.30am. The Royal Corgis and the grassy knoll were the stars in my eyes. Lighting of the cauldron was beautiful...and of course all the amazing athletes. Best wishes to all the competitors!

Yes, it was often boring and confusing simply because the majority of the projected 1 Billion people watching are not part of the 50 Nation Commonwealth and do not understand your way of life, tv shows, current pop stars, etc. Celebrating healthcare as a major component of the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics was not in anyway exciting.

Much of what was celebrated was for the people of the United Kingdom - not the world at large. Sorry, but I too was lost for the majority of it. I don't watch James Bond movies and didn't even know he was the person who came to get the Queen. I just thought he was a servant.

Some of it was very cool and modern. The fireworks and bicyclists were the best parts for me. David Beckham in the speedboat was cool, edgy and unexpected.

I do think it was a logistical achievement for the producer, production team, and volunteers. There was A LOT going on all over the place all the time, and even if we didn't understand it all, it looked like it happened like it was supposed to.

The UK should be proud of itself for a job very well done. However, telling the rest of us that we are stupid simply because we could not relate to 90% of it is very unkind and shortsighted.

They were good and this is not a negative against them. But ever Olympics they get more and more elaborate trying to out do the last one. I wish it was a simpler affair but then I know no one would watch them. But in todays tough times I think it would be appropriate.
Wishing all the athletes much success.

I have to disagree. Personally I think the Beijing Olympics opening is still the grandest or the most organized or maybe the greatest but this opening was very much relatable to anyone in the world. I appreciate something like that more than watching grand but you can't really relate with. Maybe London has already had it in mind that they can't top the Beijing opening so they made it FUN and POP culture inspired which I truly enjoy and appreciate.

Mr. Bean!
And the Queen jumping off the helicopter was hilarious!
The cauldrons were amazing.

I just watched 400m men and Phelps is off the medal. Lochte won against him.

I missed it and I'm kicking myself for not having recorded it! I can't seem to find a rebroadcast of it (so far) anywhere. Dr_Ferragamo provided a link but, unfortunately, you can't view it unless you're in the UK. Youtube has a bunch of clips but not the entire ceremony. I looked on nbc.com and nbcolympics.com and it wasn't posted there. Any ideas on where I might be able to watch it online from the U.S.?

^^ No idea man, I'm really sorry - been looking myself.
The Mr. Bean one's back up again, but again it's BBC so I'm guessing UK-only? :(

If you have cable you can watch it "On Demand".

Congrats to Ryan Lochte. :D

And weather outlook for this week's events??
... Faster, Higher, Stronger, Wetter.

I was on the phone with my Mum for most of it, and even she thought it was a bit garbled at times. But it was the Olympics! Mum got so homesick I heard her voice catch a few times.

I seriously thought they would go for the games this time, but they decided to wait until later in the year to head uncle's in Bristol. Wish I could join them.

No! Daley comes 4th. To be honest... I suspected he might, lol.

Always fun to look at though ;)
I always think the underwater shots are a bit... deliberately voyeuristic lol. We all know the speedos slip a bit. ;)

GB gymnasts did well tho (unexpectedly) - bunch of hotties.
Gymnastics is always the hottest discipline, imo. :p

I've also remembered that with the Olympics, hopefuls usually do shit, and it's the unexpecteds that turn out well. Due to the pressure, or bad predictions? :p

i dont get it...
german swimmers own world/europe-records and world/europe champion titles... but as soon as it is about the olympics, we can be happy if we make it in the finals :confused::confused:

but im always happy to see our rowers - nearly unbeatable - but who would be surprised.since 1930´s, we are used that a lot of tall and strong guys get told by a little guy what to do..

on the other hand, i never understood, why germans are so good when its about horses
