Excuse me, but when did I suggest otherwise? Their affection for each other was famous.
And how do we know that that such an instrument was called a Prince Albert during his lifetime?
Off the top of my head, I know of two occurrences. The
Journal of My Days by Sir Alwin James and
Le voisin inconnu by Jean-Vincent de Savoie, both published during Prince Albert's lifetime, I believe in the 1850's. I will have to do some searching because I don't own those books, but I can find the references.
She did not sign her name Victoria I, any more than Elizabeth I, George I, William I, Charles I, II, XXV or any other monarch.
I saw two documents signed as Victoria I with my own eyes in the British Museum. I thought it odd myself that she should qualify her name with a Roman
numeral, but I know what I saw. BTW, James I of England habitually signed his name as James I to distinguish between that capacity and his role as James VI of Scotland.
How could they possibily know?
How could they know that they were the first monarchs reigning under those names? How could they
not know?
Imagine my going by the name Brad the First. My ego isn't quite that big.
Then again, you're not the Queen of England!
