Stepping Down as Moderator

Thanks everyone.

I thought long and hard about what to post. I will admit there are some very hard feelings on my part. But I choose not to vent them pubically.

I received a private message though from a member accusing the present moderators of voting me out.

That is not true. What I said was the administration voted me out. The administrators are the owner, Rob E. Kotch. and Pecker. According to the e-mail I received from one of the assistants, all three were in agreement.

My personal belief is that I wanted to cross all i's and dot all t's in making decisions and I questioned to many things. That was alluded to in my message, though not in those words.

I am only human though. I have my breaking point as well. The one person who I should have heard this from and not from Kotch or Pecker has yet to send me any acknowledgment that I served as a mod, thanking me for serving. Nothing, absolutely nothing from Rob E. I am very disappointed in that he didn't send this to me personally instead letting one of his administrative assistants to handle.

I hate to see a lot of innocent people blamed for what happened.

I had to be true to my convictions. We post when members are banned. When moderators are as one poster said voted of the island, that should be a matter of public record as well. It makes sense.

Coming clean is difficult though. Once we start unraveling the cord.....

I don't mind sharing my letter of dismissal though I don't want to be the second moderator banned so I will decline to do so. if they give permission or if they wish to publish its contents as long as the entire contents are printed, that is fine with me. It makes it very transparent.

Two avoid speculation as far as I know only three people have in the history of this site been asked to step down as a moderator. Everyone one else who left the mod board did so of their own decision.

One of those mods voted off the island had to have much more severe action taken, much more severe and it happened a long time ago. Pecker and Rob E are the only ones who know about that situation.

Only Pecker on the active board goes back as far as I did.

I am very proud to have served you. I can leave with a clean conscience. You all can surmise as well as me. You may read this and draw different conclusions. That is fine as well.

So out of all the mods that have served according to this administration I rank in the bottom three as far as my official record shows. What other conclusion can I reach? Only three mods voted off the island. Speaks very poorly of me. I really don't believe Pecker and Kotch feel that way, but that is how it is coming out on paper.

Again, I couldn't let the mods take the heat for something they had no part in. So there was no much left to do but make it clear as both Kotch and Pecker wrote extremely nice things on the mod board to the board and to me. Words of praise I haven't heard given to most mods leaving.

If you are confused. Join the party. You can't be more confused than me.

In the end, it is you the members that I felt that I served. To that end, I felt I served you well from the beginning to the end.

I am proud of my record. I always will be. If I was treated wrongly, it will sooner or later surface. It always does. There are no free rides for our actions good or bad.

I was really looking forward getting back into the groove. My new computer had to have new soft ware and all the trial ware taken off.

This computer crashes like crazy especially when I first click on a site. most often it takes several tries and then it will crash and don't think about checking something else out on this computer. That hindered by visits here severely. It was almost impossible for me to research anything.

I have had to type on word pad and then hope I can get it to paste before the computer crashed again. This computer has been to say the least hell.

You may all wish you hadn't asked me to stay now that I will have something new to type on sometime tomorrow, whenever the store calls.

It's paid for they had better call!!!!!

After severe health problems from November until March I was and am on the upswing. I am back to my routine before last November. I plan on living until 90 at least!!!

Again, thanks for all the friendships that I gained while being a mod and before that.
Advice: When someone who looks like Microsoft comes on the screen and says to turn off your virus protection for five minutes while some "updates" are done. Don't. That was the beginning of the end of this computer.

i've written way too much, but hey it is my Swan Song so if there are two many stanzas well I won't be on the mod stage much longer.

Love you all,

Freddie

Ultimately its the MEMBERS who decide what kind of moderator you were here. Not those few with their own agendas.

WE think you were Freddie Fantastic. Of that you should be proud.

Honestly, I think you're better off out of it.

Also thx for all the hard work you described. Being a moderator can be alot of tedious work and time consuming, I know, I did it on another site. you'll have more fun as a regular citizen! Welcome back!

Thanks, Freddie, for your many years of service.
I enjoyed serving with you for a time on the mod squad. You very often took the human view of things, and I appreciated that.
I'm sure you'll quickly spread your wings again as a 'civilian' member.

Look on the bright side you are leaving a sinking ship. If you were treated wrongly, don't worry, what comes around goes around. I would hate to be a Mod here especially now, it used to be so much fun and it was such a friendly atmosphere, but things have changed now. Don't feel bad, losing you as a Mod is the website's loss. Also, thanks for being honest with us, you could have said that you were stepping down for personal reasons.

Freddie, a true testament to how good a moderator you were is the amount of time you spent as one. You were never (as far as I can recall) in the crosshairs or controversial which shows you are a level headed and thoughtful person. Try not to dwell on why or how you were asked to leave, but remember fondly in the time you spent helping out other people.

Enjoy being "one of us" :) x

Freddie?

What can I say but that I love you.

You've been ever-decent and giving throughout my tenure at LPSG. Thanks for the many kind volleys we've had behind the scenes. I'll send you a pm too.

But I wanted to acknowledge your announcement in open forum.

All my best always,

R

Moderators have unlimited storage in their pm box. When I reverted to being a member, I fell into the over the limit your box is 100 % full. Therefore I can not send nor receive pm's until I clear it out. Being a pack rat. This may take some time.

In the meanwhile, if anyone wants to contact me, send it to my e-mail address. I'll add that to my sig as a reminder to everyone.

The new computer will be picked up this morning. I learned some tricks to get this old one to work though unfortunately, I didn't learn most of them until the last few weeks.

1, The computer crashes were much worse after the sun set. That is when I usually am on the computer. I discovered just recently that in the mornigs it works better. so if you have computer problems keep that in mind.

2. I finally learned to turn the computer off with the on button on the tower instead of using the off button on the screen and wait one to five minutes.

If you have computer problems keep that in mind.

Using the power button on the tower (and holding it for 10 seconds) is actually a last ditch emergency thing to do. You are literally pulling the plug! If any programs (or windows itself) hasn't written things to the drive before the power goes, you risk loosing data, and general system corruption.

Your old machine really sounds like it's in need of some serious TLC, in the shape of a good antivirus (http://free.avg.com), a good anti spyware scan (Ad-Aware Free - Download security software for spyware removal - Lavasoft and The home of Spybot-S&D!) and a crap clean! (CCleaner - Home)

On the plus side... All the above are free for private use :)

Other things I would check are that it's not full of dust and the power supply fan is still blowing the hot air out the back. Check the fan on the processor inside is still turning too... PC cases collect a load of dust inside (especially if they are sitting on the floor). I have seen one that was literally full! It would run for about 30 mins before getting too hot, then crash. After it was turned off, if you left it for a couple of hours to cool off, you could use it for another 30 minutes later!

The sunset crashing is curious, it could be down to spikes on the electrical supply at that time, or it could be the time when a virus on your machine is instructed to start doing something (probably spewing tons of spam).
If it is spikes on the power, the new machine will hopefully have a better quality power supply and be able to handle this.
If not, you might have to buy a little UPS (which will protect you in the event of a power cut or localised lightning strike). A small one for personal use isn't very expensive, and certainly cheaper than a new PC.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've tried nearly all of them. The crashing started when I took the computer in to have a trojan virus removed that my Norton would not remove and shut down all Internet connection.

When I got it back, it never has worked the same. I've bought registry products, put Norton 360 back on. The back up on it won't work.

The computer crashes before some programs can even finish the scan. I really like Spy Bot and it is free.

I'll keep this computer so I will try the things that you suggested that I haven't.

About the turn off, quite often the entire computer freezes, nothing works, the mouse is inactive. Just a screen on whatever was there when it frooze up.

Again thanks,

Freddie

Sounds like you need to do a format and reinstall. At least you have access to back-up everything you need. You may have to get someone to re-do the machine if you're not up to it.

Much of this stuff should be run while the machine is in safe mode.

I have been lead to believe that the Trojan that got on the computer when some outfit that I thought was windows said turn of your anit virus for five minutes. I did and the computer became infested. Even with a complete total erase of everything including the erasement of all soft ware, the computer just didn't come back.

It has started dinking (Making a lot of noises) a lot. I think it is just too damaged and had too much use on it. The whole thing is just worn out.

The guy at Office Depot couldn't bring it back. So I'm getting a new computer. I don't want to spend any more money on software and try to get this one back up.

I think I got rooked on the computer clean up and restoration of software. But it has been too long now to try to get claim fowl.

It has been three months. No repairperson is going to take resopnsibility for anything wrong now.

Besides all my friends say... It is a Dell. Dells aren't good anymore.

Meanwhiel I have a 1998 Dell that still works. Too obsolete to function on the DSL. It can handle dail up though. Not interested.

Jason I hope you are much much better now.

A format properly done can work wonders because it erases everything on your hard disk which is where all your data and programs (including Windows) is housed. You may have a Dell with a secret hidden partition which houses Windows and that may have been corrupted, hence the restore not working properly. There may also have been some malicious code entered into the BIOS. That should be flashed as well.

I used to do this sort of thing as a living before the big C came along so if you'd like me to give it a shot, just PM me and mail the thing off with a return shipping label. I'll return it when I can get it working. Just be sure to send me every disc that came with it. I can't guarantee I can save your data so DO back-up what you can. If you're getting a new computer anyway, it can't hurt and would give you a second PC (always nice) or you can donate it to someplace or give it to someone who needs one.

Let me know if you're interested.

I'm sorry to see you're not on the team anymore Freddie.I've no idea what goes on behind the scenes on sites like this but from where I'm standing this seems like a very strange decision.
When so many of the recently installed mod team have already stepped down, why remove someone who is well respected across the board and genuinely WANTS to do the job?
I appreciate all the effort you've put into this site,at least you'll have more time to post amongst us riff-raff now!
Good luck with the computer problems,I've had some start-up problems tonight after installing an extra 2GB RAM. All sorted out now.
