I've been bottom once it hurt some but I loved it. Haven't got to try being Top but I want to. My question is why do some guys ID them self's as one or the other? Is it just out of personal preference or is there something I haven't experienced yet?

try being a top and then decide which you prefer. i know what my favourite is...
I think people identify as top or bottom as a gravitational pull towards what they enjoy the most. Once it's there, it's like advertising. If you're a top you don't wanna have sex with a top, you want a bottom who is gonna enjoy what you are doing to him, vise versa.
