Try guys

Eugene was always my least favorite and I was saying years ago that it was super obvious he was phasing himself out of the group. I always found him unfunny and far too self-serious.

Back in the day the guys would take pretty much any oppportunity to get naked or run around in the skimpiest underwear and swimsuits. Their striptease show video was jerk off worthy. I've shot many a load to their older content. When they really started taking off and YouTube began being far more strict about content, they got family friendly and I got bored.
Hate to agree but I think you're right. Hot take: ever since he came out I feel like he's become more and more full of himself...

people on the internet judging people based on impressions that are probably nowhere near the truth... there's never enough of those. : unamused:
Eugene's ENTIRE career up until his recent stint attempting to be an actor was as an online PERSONALITY.

His *ENTIRE* product for sale was his PERSONALITY.

He was and is an internet *PERSONALITY*.

How insane to think that building a following of millions based on what you have projected into the universe as your personality would lead some people to forming opinions ABOUT. YOUR. PERSONALITY.

Get a life, peanut. <3

I'm gonna teach you something you apparently don't know... the personality of those internet personalities is usually quite different then what they show on the internet. They portray a character to attract viewers. You're welcome.

So what you're suggesting is that the personality I described negative traits about is NOT his real personality, but one he is intentionally creating to make himself unlikeable while in his private life he is actually really charming, witty and kind? Hmm. :)

No what they are saying is that certain internet personalities curate a "character" that may or may not have certain "character traits" that they themselves share offline. And since none of us know these people offline, it makes no sense to make a judgment on their character for a "character" that they play online...

Someone could very easily say that the unlikable character traits that you see in Eugene are unlikable character traits that you see within yourself and that you are merely projecting.

But that would be a judgment on your character based on little to no evidence, kinda like what you're doing.

You're allowed to share your opinions on someone's personality, whether it's their online persona or not. They never really said anything as fact, just their opinions on the "character" Eugene shares with the world. It's like saying you can't judge someone or make assumptions if you don't really know them, which is completely inaccurate, people do that all the time. Looking at your replies on different threads, you've made assumptions about people's sexuality and circumstances without really knowing them too, it's what people do all the time. It doesn't make you a bad person or wrong for forming an opinion on someone based on what you've heard about someone or what they decide to share.

We see this phenomenon on reality TV all the time. If you are impressed by a self-loving person, their demeanor comes off as confident. If you are not impressed, the demeanor comes off as arrogant.

All it really says about Eugene is that he embraces who he is, especially after coming out. Everything else is about whether you care, and that's just a matter of taste...

So I came to check and see if anyone else noticed Eugene has been awol on a majority of Try Guys content the last 4 months, but came upon a slightly heated debate about personas lol.

Here’s my take. Yes, people can have different personas in the media than in their personal lives. Though you usually see this with influencers and creators who are outgoing on camera, but introverted off. The only time you see someone who has a negative public persona which differs than their private one is in the case of reality stars. Because their job is to sell drama.

Eugene is not a reality star. He is an influencer and a content creator, so the uppity, greater than thou demeanor he’s had the past few years is very obvious and rubs people the wrong way. This is already prevalent well before the controversy with Ned. Eugene looked like he didn’t want to be there. I’m pretty sure I said it before in this thread, but his behavior starting to change when he witness colleagues of his move onto “greater” things (ex. Quinta). I do not believe his self discovery is the cause of this, As it’s clearly more about what he wants his legacy to be.

His legacy is going to be people who are 20 now saying in 25 years to their friends "Oh man, do you remember "The Try Guys"? What were their names again? Remember the Asian gay one who thought he was better than everyone else?"

Eugene has been checked out for YEARS. He clearly wanted to spin off into a career in acting and it has not panned out. No one takes him seriously as a model because realistically, sorry but name a 38 year old male model who didn't start that career at a younger age.

Personally I just find him overbearing in his attempt to "school" people on what it means to be queer, because he pushes out this queer genericism as if he's the first queer guy to discover his identity. Yawn.

I just want them walking around in their underwear again.

In a way I understand his frustration. However, if you’re not happy doing something anymore, take a chance on yourself and leave. I personally think he would do great on Queer Eye as the Culture Expert. It’s about time they shake some things up there anyways. Something like that could open him to new opportunities and it’s a great network of people. I believe Jeremiah Brent just replaced the design guy on the show. Anyways, I just thought it was weird that all of the lastest vids and ads were Zach and Keith with special guest rather than Eugene. Sadly, I think the days of provocative content are over as Keith couldn’t even make dirty jokes in the ice cream vids without being hushed.

I just want them walking around in their underwear again.
Seriously. OR I want them to fail so spectacularly that they have no choice but to jack off on the internet for money.

Yo Keith, Ned, Zach, if you're seeing this, I will pay you each $10,000 to jerk it for me privately and I'll sign an NDA. My DMs are open.

Yeah Eugene has wanted to check out and distance himself for a “greater” career for years now and had pretty much left the other three to try and see if he could make it any sort of regard

I think he was genuinely pissed at Ned for the betrayal toward Ariel as well as the brand’s image but I think a lot of anger also came with the fact that Ned being gone would also make his own absence and move to being behind the scenes (at best) all the more noticeable as well. Like at this point I feel like I see Matt’s face (and the wives) on the channel more than Eugene

The Ned thing was so fucking stupid. The performative way they excised him publicly made me feel like they didn't want him around and his "betrayal" was just their opportunity to force him out. I died when they made fun of it on SNL. The way they made that "announcement video" as if someone had been brutally murdered in a daycare center or something.

I mean, not to bring up old shit but they literally built their brand on being respecting, friendly, all inclusive, etc etc (on top of all the stuff they tried) so they can’t just let a cheating adulterer who potentially abused his power as a company founder (lest we forget the other woman was an employee) stay in and risk their image as fraudulent but with him leaving they couldn’t not acknowledge it.

Their numbers have continued to sink (last I checked) as half of the original four are no longer present, so there’s probably no legitimacy to “not wanting him around” since nothing about the situation has yielded any positive. Only thing stupid about it were Ned’s actions

So glad we are having debates and arguments to flood the thread!
We're having a conversation? Best I can tell no one presently is arguing, debating or even disagreeing particularly. You can always...go away.

There could have potentially been bad optics around the idea that as a producer of the show one of the people they hired to appear on the show was having some kind of relationship with him, I'll give you that. But as the women herself said that wasn't the case, it's kind of a moot point. No one involved seemed to have any intention of making their private affair public. The "guys" DECIDED to do that, and it felt performative to a lot of us, especially because of the heavy handed way they did it.

An alternate strategy would have been to keep private shit private and go on with being the jolly ass-flashing goofballs people enjoyed them being. :p
