Sorry jeff, if that wasn't much of a rant against tv quality. But I do loves me my HBO shows.

It's cool, JA. You are just voicing your opinion.

Hey, I am guilty of watching all those shows too. HBO has some of the best shows on.

My main qualms occur when I realize that some of these shows can be seen by kids before 10pm. There is nothing wrong with adults watching.. I just think that children shouldn't be able to watch it... and they do.

The original clip I posted, was filled with images that I found offensive ONLY because some of them were in kids shows, and on shows I recognised to be on, BEFORE 10pm.

Ooopps, FOX's SLUTTIEST CO-ED's is on... gotta go.

Gee, I never seem to be in agreement with the popular kids.

Unfortunately, my two favorite shows are on the network I like the least: Fox. I loves me some Simpsons and some Family Guy. The Simpsons does occasionally have a few duds, but overall, some of the most brilliant satire ever... and such longevity! But watching my two favorite shows is almost unbearable, because of the horrific advertising on Fox. I didn't care for "AmIdol", but in order to watch 30 minutes of one show, I had to watch "mini-documentary" ads for those shitty shows I don't like. Eww. All those "talent search" shows are just absolutely the worst: Idol, You Think You Can Prance... will they never end?

About the only other thing I watch is an occasional show on History Channel. "Digging for the Truth" with Josh Bernstein is ok, and he's pretty easy on the eyes.

In general: on cable, 40 channels, and 36 of them are nothing but feces.

Oh, I occasionally watch C-SPAN, too... boring, but good to keep an eye on those crooks.

Ah, DC_Deep. I prefer you to some of the cool kids. At least you are willing to present opposite ends of the spectrum.

You think it is cool to let kids the clip I introduced in the first post? I like Family Guy and Simpsons as well. I don't think that 8 year olds should watch it, due to the fact that it has content that is innappropriate for kids.

Heck man, I am beating a dead horse here. You either don't care about T.V shows or you do. Either way... it doesn't matter.

I don't watch that much TV anyways, and if, I mostly stick with the news channels, documentary or something like that. But considering the compilation Jeff gave us in the initial post of this thread, I wonder how much of the shit quells from the stations that broadcast the unfiltered view of our moral-drenched government and it's supporters. I guess if it attracts a few more eyes and gives a few more commericals bucks, everything goes.

Thanks, jeff. Here is where we have the great chasm: FoF, CWA, and other similar groups prefer that the government censor television for child-appropriateness. I, on the other hand, prefer that (?)PARENTS(?) take the time and effort to control what their children watch, and decide what is age-appropriate for their own children.

PERHAPS the only point I ever wanted to get across. Thanks for saying it so Concisely.

Parents should be in charge of THEIR own children. Sadly, some parents are not that good at that. Which is why CWA and The FriendsOF have come about.

I probably shouldn't use acronyms, but since I mention these two so often, I figured that most everyone knows who they are by now: Focus on the Family, and Concerned Women for America. Do a google search on either/both of them for a little frustrating reading.

Ok, you got me there. Earl is the best trash tv going. It celebrates trailer-trashiness the way Drew Carey celebrated Cleveland mediocrity.

On Earl, my favorite episode is when Earl's ex-wife beats up his ninja trained ex-girlfriend (played by Juliette Lewis). After she kicks Juliette's butt, she turns to an astonished Earl and says, "I watch Springer" and walks away dusting off her hands. It doesn't get much better than that.

jeff,
Ok, I finally watched the video and you are completely right. I am done defending TV in this thread. The stuff in the video being on prime time proves your original premise. Tv is shit. On prime time, that shit is broke. QED

Oooooh, that's a fave of mine, too. Not only is the Juliette Lewis character ninja-trained, but also she specifically studied that for years so she could get revenge on Joy (Jaime Pressly) for beating her up when they were younger. Ooops. I soooooooo hope Jaime wins the Emmy.

In terms of Drew Carey, I have to say I stopped being able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy that show around the time they gave him his ummmmm like 14th hot girlfriend.

Yes, that was totally out of form. It was hard to identify with our hero of mediocrity after that. Its too bad, because he had everything else nailed. Drew was Parma, OH personified.

I got rid of cable a while ago. I just download the shows that I like, either from the websites like CBS.com or usenet or, usually, torrents. The only thing I really miss about cable is the sports and news on a restless night. It's not worth paying $60/mo for that though. The news isn't what it used to be anyway.

Everyone tells me to watch Lost, 24, Prison Break and Grey's Anatomy. I missed most of the first season of these shows, so I am kinda lost. I just watch Heroes, Survivor, Amazing race, Daily Show, Ugly Betty, Jericho, Family Guy, 30 Days, and a few others -- especially documentaries.

I've watched Grey's Anatomy, but I liked the book more.

So much of TV is juvenile drivel aimed at gratifying the middle school mentality. There are only a few exceptions. I steer clear of TV and advise others to do the same. I think regular exposure to broadcast pop TV is as detrimental to intellectual health as routine consumption of fast food is to physical health.

Nip / Tuck was on that twice... but it just made me want to watch the show more....

Nip/Tuck is one of those brilliant shows that pushes the cultural envelope. I praise Julian McMahon, in particular, for playing such an intricate character as the bisexual, plastic surgeon Christian.

I own all three of the seasons of Nip/tuck. Can't get enough of that show. However, when I posted this thread, I found the clip and was disgusted at some of the stuff.. I mean, Nip/tuck was airing at 9 or 10pm at the time.. some of those shows were on at 7-8:eek:

I don't remember seeing any of those clips (except, of course, South Park; and even then, I never saw the gerbil episode), which must mean that I don't even bother watching those shows anyway.

the way that tv has become these days, I rarely turn the damn thing on, and when I do, it's to watch a dvd, there is very very little that is worth watching on the tv anymore, as far as I am concerned, it's getting worse and worse, and a lot of that crap anymore is on during the so called family hour, kids watch this shit all the time, now more than ever is a good time for parents to take the tv out of the kids rooms.
