Great question Onslow and nice to see you posting.
I love salt water. Every time I swim in fresh I get an ear infection. I don't like what I imagine lurks beneath pond or lake water.
So I swim around the breakwaters here and in the Bay at high tide. It's really the best form of exercise I can imagine. I always feel invigorated afterwards.
I like swimming for sure. If for distance, I like a public pool. For more fun and privacy and private pool. And fun and amusement a pool in an amusement park.
Rock quarries. So quiet, huge, and beautiful. But so illegal, now, with recent deaths and lawsuits; you get towed and fined up the ass if caught. Oh, to return to the 70's and 80's. Naked guys all the time. Sigh..
I like my pool at home, plenty of privacy, I don't really swim so much as float around and read and day dream. I used to love the ocean, I have never recovered for seeing Jaws!
There are two places I swim nowadays. The sea is just steps from my front door, so most mornings before work I'm in there. It's always flat in the early morning during the summer and the sun comes up red over the point across the bay. It charges me up for the day.
On hot afternoons we take the dogs up the trail from the backside of the property, to a creek that comes down the valley. There are two swimming holes, it's shady and the water is really cold.
The house in Canada has a big in-ground pool and it was fun to party there when the kids were young. But I never really liked swimming in it and have no desire to have one again.
I grew up less than a mile from the Atlantic and we used to swim in it almost every day from March to October. You can't beat the feeling. It's exhilarating. These days, I'm about an hour's drive from the nearest beach, so I don't get to swim in the sea that often - usually only at weekends.
There are actually a few waterparks in NJ that do simulate those type of rock formations and waterfalls to a T. Shti, i've always had a fantasy about making love/having sex behind those waterfalls.
I enjoy swimming in many places but my favorite is my own in-ground pool. I especially love floating around looking at the beautiful palms we've planted in the yard and watching the wild life; a few squirrels and iguanas. I went on a snorkel trip in the Florida Keys last week, first time being in the ocean in a long time. Can't wait to go back again.
