hello fellow members, having lived in different parts of the world, i have observed a trend that somehow western society is very lenient with clothing for caucasian women, but very hard upon caucasian men, I mean, caucasian women generally wear skimpy bikinis which barely covers the private parts on the beaches and nobody raises an eyebrow, rather praises them, but when caucasian men even wear speedos which are generally much bigger than women's bikinis, still they get so much hateful gaze and comments. they are supposed to wear boardshorts to knee length while their female counterparts wear something just next to nothing. and not just the beach, if some men chose to wear briefs, tangas, etc as underwear, they also get hatred, but women can wear any types of underwear long or short, nobody raises an eye.. even in the gym, caucasian women can wear anything, tights that reveals every curves, but if a man decides to wear tights, he can get warning for dressing outrageously (i have seen that happening). and to me, if somebody wants to wear a tanga brief on the beach just like a women would wear bikini, there shouldnt be a problem. So, why is the western world so hard upon caucasian men? they don't despise even an out of shape lady in a bikini, then why despise a very fit man in a similar outfit.. are caucasion men okay with this differential treatment? here sexuality is not in question because nobody associates women's sexuality with clothing...i am surprised nobody started a speedo movement or something like that to break the stigma..

Its all to do with the uncertainty about what to do about sex, and a cock on display can be seen as a weapon of threat.
Sex is still taboo, a throwback from Victorian times when even table legs had covers, gone were the days of cod pieces designed to emphasise a mans genitals, extra padding bejewelled, to attract the eye and hopefully instigate a sexual liaison.
Now the very thought of a guy in a posing pouch on the beach would be cause for outrage, a budgie smuggler would be thought of as obscene.
So while the ladies can parade round bare midriff on show, camel's hoof in evidence a guy with a hint of a cock is thought of as a degenerate.
Sex is still something to be hidden away = not helped by the proliferation of a large number of so called sexual variations.

This sounds like a men are homophobic problem, not an exclusive hate towards Caucasians.

Yep. Not long ago in the 1970s men could wear Speedos and dick/bulge showing swimwear. And then those vile board shorts came into fashion. Board-shorts not only cover the dick but cover half your leg too while women are encouraged and at the same time a new male focused modesty swept over males. At first it was just the US then it has seem to spread worldwide. And women piled on too saying they don't like seeing men in Speedos and that was all it took to sink them. Meanwhile yes women are encouraged to walk around in next to nothing.

Gay men at least haven't changed. Gay beaches are full of Speedos and box cut swimwear.

Are Straight Guys Ready for Speedo Summer? < - don't think this happened but it made good press.

Try buying a pair of decent short shorts these days and you end up with sports shorts - bring back those as worn by Boy Scouts of old!

Men can be naked in porn -- big dick, nut sack, and all...

Straight men will look right a man's naked ass going up and down while he's penetrating a woman. Also, straight men will watch rimming/pegging scenes.

A woman present validates male nudity, to some degree. A naked man on his own -- no! Exceptions: a picture showing only a big dick and or a scrotum is acceptable around many straight men: just don't show man's face or too much of the rest of his body.

In France, men are not modest at the beach, nor in Germany.

very interesting take on this, but you mentioned that sex is a taboo, but then why does this apply only to men, not to women? if speedos/briefs/tangas accentuates men's private parts, then the bikini also does accentuate women's private parts.. i think its both ways...isn't it? and western society talks about gender equality, then why is it so shy in giving equality to women.. like. let women wear bikini, thongs, strings etc without labelling them lesbian, and let men wear bikini briefs etc without labelling them gay..

so if in 1970s men could wear speedos without guilt or hate, then how come today they are not able to do that when we say we have become more progressive than before? and if we were to equate modesty with safety or civilized world, etc, then have both genders cover themselves.. i just cant seem to understand this huge discrimination in today's world

Well that's a good question. The new modesty extends beyond just Speedos though. You could say just the fashion changed but newer generations Gen X and Gen Z apparently have an intense dislike of locker room nudity. Communal/gang showers have all but vanished.

I think I could answer this;

In our society, a patriarchal society, men aren't valued for their sexuality in the same way as women are. Women have to be be young, attractive, docile, thin etc to be considered desirable by the patriarchy's standards. Men in our current society need to be "providers and protectors" so a man's desirability is based on his ability to earn a living or protect from "bad men" or whatever. Also, our culture literally thinks anything feminine is bad and degrading, so I'd also argue that a guy wearing a speedo, from an American patriarchal perspective is just behaving "femininely" or "gay" so it's just plain old homophobia and women hating.

I know some people might object to this point, but older women being naked or sexual in any way is treated in a similar brand of disgust as a lot of men wearing certain types of swimwear or even wearing "feminine clothes" period. Same thing with women who are overweight or black.

I think you're making a common mistake when talking about this; Feminism at least our current wave of Feminism wants gender equality and wants sex to be not taboo for a large number of reasons. The mistake is confusing our very sexist status quo, which has co-opted elements of Feminism, with the expressed goals of Feminism.
