Sam Bee told the truth. I agree totally with @MickeyLee. It was a perfect description of Ivanka. It's what Sam Bee does--she uses comedy to tell the truth. Regularly. I'm all about truth-tellers. Even if the truth hurts.

What do you think of her apology then? Because she did apologize, saying of her own remark that it was both inappropriate and inexcusable.

If you consider her to be a truth teller who tells it like it is, then what do you in turn make of her own admission that she shouldn't have used those words?

Ivanka Trump is a CUNT. In all caps, with a wicked big font size. Hard C, drawn-out UN, Crisp T.
Why do you feel so strongly? I generally avoid politics because i have a distrust of media... everything has a spin... so it's entirely possible that I missed whatever incident makes you say this.

If it's just that shes DJT's daughter, I don't think the label is warranted. Im not a big fan of his, but that whole sins of the father thing is unfair.

Or maybe i withold that label for people who have done a whole lot of hateful cunty things.

I think more that she feigns support of feminism. She says a lot of things that speak to female empowerment, but at the same time supports Trump's administration and policies which run counter to a lot of feminist platforms. If she truly believed half the stuff she said, she wouldn't touch Trump's administration with a ten foot pole, but instead she's actively working on it.

Hypocrisy tends to bug the hell out of people.

This.

And she is making money off the Trump administration. She's had patents pushed through, she has leveraged manufacturing deals with Chinese companies. She is violating constitutional law.

And all the things Mr. Tex typed.

She's a cunt. Such a Cunt. Much cuntery.

I knew an apology would be forthcoming as soon as I read her comments. And let's be real here, I'm sure there was pressure from up on high within the network to apologize. No surprise there.

I can tell you, however, I admire Samatha Bee for having that shred of decent humanness to admit to a "mistake". Perhaps she decided, upon reflection and whatever other pressures, that while her point was valid, the word *cunt* became the trigger, and subsequently, the focus. But then again, I'm not Sam Bee, so I really can't say, other than to speculate here, as to the why.

Still, I haven't heard many dispute it as inaccurate. Except the loyal Trumpettes. I believe what what she said about Ivanka, in full context, was quite accurate, and again, truthful. @MickeyLee has been spot on with her observations.

But, that wasn't the point of my comment. My point was simple--IMO, Sam Bee just said "outloud" what so many others have been thinking. Poor choice of words with *cunt* perhaps, but her point was spot on, TRUE, nevertheless. And let's get realer here now--Ivanka is using her father's administration to enrich herself. Can you say Chinese trademarks? So that makes her a feckless, immoral, opportunistic, hypocritical whatever. Bitch? Cunt? Vajayjay? Asshole? Cocksucker? Whatever! That's what people are missing here. Instead, they are focused on the use of *cunt*. Sheesh.

I'm not a Trumpette (loyal or otherwise). I just don't support using sexually and racially charged language against anyone at any time regardless of their offenses.

I have over 7,000 posts here. I've referred to someone as a bitch, cunt, or a cocksucker in zero of them. I have plenty of posts suggesting that people fuck off; posts that could be interpreted as a suggestion that someone go die in a fire, etc. I'm hardly the nicest poster in the world. But I stay away from any suggestion that the issue I have with any person is related to the color of their skin, who they sleep with, or what parts they have between their legs.

It's not just language that I stay away from personally. I take issue with others using the language as well, even if the targets of said ire are hardcore social conservatives. I don't like it when Samantha Bee uses that language, I don't like it when Mickeylee does, I don't like it when you do.

Does what I like or don't like amount to anything? Beats me, but if I express my distaste then there's at least a chance people might speak otherwise (-vs- no chance if I stay silent).

Never did I intimate you to be anything other than someone whose posts I am familiar with to whom I was responding to questions asked of me.

Prolific poster you are indeed. You are also smart, erudite and quite self-aware. I admire your posts for the most part. I do wish you and one of the moderators in the Politics section could see you agree more than you don't. I think you're a cool dude.

I understand how you feel. I'm not about name-calling. I will, however, call a spade a fucking shovel when it's appropriate.

Again, I understand how you feel. Your points are valid. But then again, so are those of @MickeyLee. And mine. And every other MF who posts all around LPSG. Whether I like what they say or how they say it.

I think we have very similar core beliefs about what constitutes the type of America we want to live in, but different views about what it would take to get us there. I think we butt heads a lot because we feel like the other's methods are counter productive to making forward progress even though we both want to end up at the same destination.

That said, he hasn't insinuated that I'm a conservative Republican for the last week or so (so I haven't had cause to call him names). :p

I heart this. You can disagree and not be an asshole, or resort to name calling.

No she isn't. She lacks depth and warmth.

Sometimes that kind of language can undermine an otherwise intelligent and insightful point of view. My issue with those, such as yourself, who have an issue with that type of language is that , well, it's just snobbery basically. Swearing and this particular type of language are more likely to be used by working class people and those who have not had such excellent educational opportunities. It's classist.
Also, I find that i'm leaning more towards the need to preserve freedom of speech than I was in the past. IT'S IMPORTANT.

It's funny the way language twists and turns out differently in different places.

I personally do use cunt in everyday speech. Far more rarely than I use the word fuck, but still once in a while. I tend to limit that to settings with less North Americans (or at least reserve it for Americans that are heavily used to British English) though, because the word carries hefty sexist connotations there.

In the general British sense however, it is just a strong, gender-neutral insult without the sexist baggage. That's also how it is used in quite a few other English speaking countries. Hell, in Scotland it is a completely neutral word, as in sentences like "he was a decent cunt to know".

Sweet little old ladies even use the word in Scotland. Actually, the Scottish old lady I used to know was a translator and spoke several languages. Still used the word cunt.

You're from the UK though. "Cunt" carries a different weight / usage here than in the UK (and I said earlier in this discussion that my opinion is a US centric one).

Using the word "cunt" in the USA is definitely not a point of difference in working class -vs- upper class vernacular. If anything, it's the opposite (I would say that the people in the states who are aware of the usage of the word "cunt" it in a joking fashion are those who have some exposure to British culture).

But she's not a cunt. No one is (US centric point of view. I know in Australia / New Zealand everyone is a cunt :p)

I know :p

It's a cultural difference. But for this case we're talking about an American using the word on American television in reference to another American.

Arguments about the British interpretations of the word cloud the issue. It's not used like that here (not with prevalence).

I will attempt to skirt around the TOS to share this anecdote: In my grandmother's kitchen one day, where all of the most interesting conversations happened, one of my aunts was telling my grandmother that she knew very little about the world because she had spent her entire life in the kitchen. My grandmother had worked in the kitchen of a stately home from a young age after her mother died, and she was saying "It was very kind of the master, his lordship, to allow her to stay on and work there and provide for her younger sisters." My aunt called her a good n-----. I was very young, but old enough to feel surprised and embarrassed by her use of that word. I left the room due to shame and embarrassment and told on her basically, so a different aunt then explained it all to me. So encountering the N word was a fantastic learning opportunity.
