Just because the guys you know of haven't yet been caught or punished means nothing, it is still Illegal to engage in homosexual activity in the UAE. This is a fact.
Oh wow, ā€œillegalā€ you say? Cute. As if scribbling something in a law book has ever stopped people from doing it. Half the world bans it, yet behind closed doors it’s practically a national sport. Hate to wreck your holy little fantasyland, but even vanilla straight sex outside of marriage is technically a sin so by that logic, the whole planet’s already damned. And the UAE? Please. The same crowd wagging their fingers by day is lining up for their ā€œfamous modelā€ hookups by night. Social media? Don’t make me laugh. It’s basically Craigslist with filters ā€œpersonal trainersā€ whose real workout plan involves a very different kind of cardio. They sure know how to flex their side business. Hypocrisy never looked so oiled up and Photoshopped.

You clearly haven't been able to keep up with the conversation because that entire rant was irrelevant to what we were actually talking about. We are not talking about a crowd of finger waggers we are talking about a corrupt legal system that has and still does punish homosexuals severely. This is not on the level of a crime like Jay-walking (in some countries) that is written on paper but hardly anyone including the police care about.
A straight Scottish man was imprisoned for 3 months in Dubai because he touched the hip of another guy in a crowded bar just because he was trying to squeeze by him.

Here's one of many incidents that I have come across:

"Hi everyone,

I was the UAE resident who was detained and harassed at Dubai airport last May 2024. I am undergoing counselling right now due to PTSD, but the current situation of LGBT community within Dubai is not helping at all.

In the past month, they have started catching gay people especially from Asian origin (they are afraid of touching Western gays due to media attention).

The police wear a civilian outfit and approach feminine looking gay people and ask for their ID and phone for random inspection. From there, they jail them for a few days and then they get deported back to their home country.

It’s more rampant at the airport. They won’t let you in after they harass you at the security office.

Traveling to Dubai has become excessively unsafe lately please practice extra caution if you’re planning to visit or I suggest, NEVER."

This isn't a political thread. Arabs and more generally brown people don't need your guilt-tripping moral lessons... They know better than you what they're going through, Karen.
You made this political the moment you used the word ā€œHasbaraā€ in an English based conversation. Wonder what made you use this word specifically in the context. Especially considering that the other guy was just explaining the danger Mr Shams might be in because of the leak. You are the one trying to dismiss the danger for political reasons, which is pretty shameful considering that the mere fact that Mr Shams closing down his IG for a while after the leak corroborates him being afraid.
I am glad he he seems to be okay now.
